The Strategy Activation Canvas is the new standard for accelerating strategies - beginning where classical strategies end: with its activation. While many management and business canvases focus on developing a strategy, the Strategy Activation Canvas helps leaders and decision-makers to bring strategies to life.
This book demonstrates for the first time how entire organizations can be "activated": how people can not only perceive and implement a new strategy, but how entire organizations can be heavily involved in its making, how strategies are made visible and experienced, and how people can play an active and sustaining role throughout bringing a strategy to life. With their decades of experience in large scale organizations, Thiessen and Wreschniok pair their knowledge with case studies from Allianz, Baloise, E.ON, Hamburg Commercial Bank, Microsoft, NORD/LB, Swisscom or Swiss Re, organizations led by leaders who have significantly accelerated the success and value of their strategies through strategy activation.
This book is an essential resource for managers who have responsibility for strategic initiatives and transformation programs of any kind.

International Business: Perspectives from Developed and Emerging Markets provides students with a balanced perspective on business in a global environment, exploring implications for multinational companies in developed and emerging markets. This is the first text of its kind to emphasize strategic decision-making as the cornerstone of its approach while focusing on emerging markets.

This text integrates business and communication concepts to immerse students in the global communication experiences of business professionals.
The authors argue that the essentials of intercultural communication, such as nonverbal communication, conflict, meeting management, interviewing, and negotiations, are most useful to burgeoning professionals when they are woven into discussions about economic systems, market forces, production processes, finance structures, and human resources priorities. Each chapter begins with an explanation of theories and key terms appropriate for introductory-level students in both business and communication, then supplements that discussion with examples that demonstrate the concepts at work. The cases chosen represent different market systems in both dominant and emerging economies, explaining the cultures of competitive markets with a global perspective rather than focusing on the United States.
This book is ideal as a text for courses in international business or professional intercultural communication, or as a supplement for more general business and communication courses.

Countries around the world are working to counter the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on their healthcare systems, economies, and industries. This book brings together strategies for the adoption of new technologies and innovation systems which would help re-invigorate social and economic institutions and help communities, especially in the Global South.
The book focuses on innovation systems that address health and socioeconomic inequalities in countries such as India, Africa, Brazil, Costa Rica, and others. It looks into the responses of different countries to the shocks inflicted on the economy and health systems by the pandemic from the perspective of government institutions as well as businesses, industries, and communities. The pandemic forced many organizations to embrace various innovative strategies to contain the spread of COVID-19 and ameliorate the lives of people including employees, people from marginalized communities, and low-income groups who have suffered due to the disease. The chapters in this book study innovative interventions and community-based measures which reached many people and paved the way for policies which helped rebuild communities sustainably. The volume also analyses how these newly created and streamlined health and economic innovation systems will be carried forward in the post-COVID-19 world to address weaknesses in health and governance and address inequalities, especially for countries in the Global South.
This book will be of interest to scholars and students of economics, political economy, health and economics, development studies, public policy, and sociology.

The leading traits of executives often include creativity and innovation. Research shows that intuition can significantly enhance these traits. Developing intuitive executives and honing intuition, coupled with the ability to apply data and evidence to inform decision making, is the focus of Developing the Intuitive Executive: Using Analytics and Intuition for Success.
Some researchers call the complement of applying data analytics to intuition as quantitative intuition, rational intuition, or informed intuition. Certainly, in today's data-driven environment, analytics plays a key role in executive decision-making. However, an executive's many years of experiential learning are not formally considered as part of the decision-making process. Learning from both failures and successes can help fine-tune intuitive awareness-what this book calls intuition-based decision-making. Research also shows that many executives do not trust the internal data quality in their organizations, and so they rely on their intuition rather than strictly on data.
This book presents the work of leading researchers worldwide on intuition in the management and executive domain. Their chapters cover key issues, trends, concepts, techniques, and opportunities for applying intuition as part of the executive decision-making process. Highlights include:
- Using intuition to manage new opportunities
- Intuition in medicine
- Rules based on intuition
- Balancing logic and intuition in decision-making
- Smart heuristics to manage complexity
- Intuition and competitiveness
- Intuitive investment decision-making across cultures
Showing how intuition in executive decision-making should play an important role, this book enables managers to complement their knowledge gained from experience with analytics to improve decision-making and business success.

Based on the author's 30 years of consulting experience and validated by doctoral research, this book focuses on creating profitable growth with business model innovation in medium and large companies.
Arising from an increased need for systems thinking and technological development, there is a common understanding that a business model should primarily create, develop, and retain value for companies' customers. But increased globalization and resource constraints have led to a difficult balancing act when addressing the challenges of achieving profitable processes and long-term growth. This book provides a new framework, based on six central themes with five related success factors each, to enhance opportunities' visibility, contribute to improved margins, increase awareness of a company's unique strengths and weaknesses in overall resources, manage risk, and optimize implementation of a new model throughout an entire organization.
Owners, board members, and managers of medium and large companies worldwide, as well as advanced business students, will appreciate this detailed, practical, and clarifying approach to business model innovation.

This book presents a series of fascinating investigations into the role that the imagination plays in studying and practicing leadership. It explains how using the imagination is integral to both the study and practice of leadership itself.
Each study presented began as distinct and conceptually separable and is eloquently tied together by the author through the lens of imagination. This volume outlines the role of the imagination in understanding (a) one's self, as well as other people, (b) the social groups to which one belongs, (c) the dynamics by which these groups change, (d) the conceptual structures we use to determine boundaries, and (e) the role of ritual ceremonies such as legislative committee hearings. In so doing, it offers novel insights that will encourage the reader to consider their own understanding and study of leadership.
The Role of Imagination in Understanding Leadership will appeal to scholars and advanced students in the field of Leadership Studies, including graduate students studying leadership.

The progress of several businesses was severely challenged through the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, with several businesses collapsing globally. Apart from the pandemic, the business posture and dynamics of yesteryear has significantly changed, as the way business is conducted today, especially in this era of Industry 4.0 and the proliferation of technology-assisted processes, have created a new environment for doing business. Comparatively, yesterday's businesses seemed to have been in the "dark," keeping itself within limited geographical locations, contacts, and markets. However, business today, with the technological boom, has created a global village with the advent of the World Wide Web and social media which is redefining the way business is conducted especially in product and service development, marketing and publicity, customer attraction and retention, scouting and recruitment, and so on.
This book responds to contemporary calls for new ways of managing businesses with practitioner-oriented discourses on topical issues like business environments and how modern businesses can thrive in the same. It discusses in some detail the general composition of business environments, specific factors that influence the operations and decisions of a business within its environment, the level of control businesses have over the factors that operate within the business environment, and the need for businesses to be proactive and to strategise in order to take advantage of the opportunities the business environment presents as while minimising the negative effects some factors also present.
The book provides practical applications while not losing sight of the theoretical underpinnings. Case studies have been provided to elucidate the theories learnt and provide practical application to real-life situations. Written in easy non-technical language, the book also has practice questions at the end, making it an easy instructional manual for business owners worldwide. It is also a brilliant text for introductory students of business administration and management and covers important business areas like types of business ownership and how to start a business.

A workbook for leaders who desire to be more effective and deliberate in their leadership identity and for young leaders coming into their own, this book introduces a unique two-step process to understand and define your leadership identity.
While some leadership frameworks operate under static concepts of what makes a good leader, the Schematic Leadership Identity Model (SLIM) offers new and seasoned leaders an opportunity to explore the anchoring of who they are and the ebbs and flows of their attitudes and behaviors through life's changes and experiences. The SLIM framework has two main footings of its seven phases: revolution, which is the recognition of one's identity journey, and the theoretical constructs that help frame the process and evolution, a series of assignments and journal entries that helps each leader acknowledge their current leadership identity, unravel habits and behaviors that may not align with their idealized self, and redefine their leadership identity based on their findings and whom they aspire to be. The evolutionary design is a system necessary to be revisited as a leader goes deeper into their memories and experiences. This framework helps unearth unconscious and implicit biases that can hinder a leader's social and cultural capital.
No matter the industry or discipline, SLIM offers leaders a self-guided process of discovery that can profoundly examine the root causes of behaviors and attitudes to create meaningful change within themselves that can produce significant positive changes in their teams and organizations.

This book provides the reader with a fresh perspective on the use of theory in the body of research centred on social impacts of tourism. Theory is advanced in three primary forms within this volume. Some apply novel frameworks (e.g., theory of interaction ritual; degrowth paradigm; and mere exposure theory) to contexts involving destination residents. Others consider various uniquely complemented theoretical frameworks (e.g., social exchange theory and affect theory of exchange; Weber's theory of rationality and Foucauldian constructs; and emotional solidarity and cognitive appraisal theory). Still others develop theoretical frameworks (e.g., influence of presumed influence model, elaboration likelihood model, and social exchange theory; tourist-resident social contact; quality of life; and socio-ecological systems theory and chaos theory) for others to potentially consider and test. The chapters in this edited volume contribute to the evolving advancement of theoretical applications within the research area of social impacts of tourism.
This book will be of great interest to all upper-level students and researchers in tourism, planning and related fields. The chapters in this volume were originally published as a special issue of Journal of Sustainable Tourism.

Based around research into marketing education and marketing practice, Marketing Skills in Practice: Developing a Successful Marketing Career helps students embarking on their career to develop their professional identity, as well as the key skills required by employers in the industry.
Divided into four core sections, the book begins with an overview of the field of marketing. Section two shows students how to relate practice to their own transferable skills, while section three gives students the opportunity to consider how they lead, develop, and manage within marketing. This book offers a fresh perspective of on some of the cutting-edge methodological approaches being used among scholars conducting work on social impacts of tourism. These works are international in focus, spanning across Europe (e.g., Austria, Croatia, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, and Turkey) and Asia (e.g., Hong Kong, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Turkey). The authors employ qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods designs and some of the notable focus areas include comparative studies of residents' perspectives of tourism (i.e., involving impacts of various forms of tourism and community children's perceptions of tourism); statistical techniques such as multigroup invariance analysis and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis; and the employment of novel measurement tools such as the implicit association test involving residents' implicit stereotypes of visitors from multiple countries and the utilization of the human-scale development to identify residents' needs and satisfiers. This edited volume will most assuredly advance the methodological focus of research on social impacts of tourism moving forward.
This book will be of great interest to all upper-level students and researchers in tourism, planning and related fields. The chapters in this volume were originally published as a special issue of Journal of Sustainable Tourism.

This book offers new transdisciplinary perspectives on luxury, exploring the topical phenomenon of digitally retouched (censored) and blockchain-secured (sensored) luxury watches and outlining implications that emerge for the field of luxury studies and managerial practice.
Based on a cross-disciplinary approach, the book integrates theoretical and empirical perspectives to advance the readers' understanding of luxury. With a particular focus on the Swiss luxury watch context, the book thereby draws on qualitative, quantitative, and archival data to shed new light on recent luxury trends, integrating literature on aesthetics of labour, conspicuous consumption, Gestalt theory, ethical theory, functional theories of attitudes, and surveillance studies. Eight chapters take the readers through a range of topical challenges arising with the display and changing moral perceptions of luxury and shifts that the luxury watch sector is facing in light of the digital transformation impacting luxury goods and the luxury management environment.
This unique book will be of value for academics, scholars, and upper-level students across management studies with a particular interest in the luxury and fashion industries, luxury management, brand management, business ethics, and digital transformation.

Much more than a book about flexible working, Beyond Hybrid Working is an engaging and practical management book to help organisations rethink all aspects of traditional work in the emerging post-pandemic landscape and reap the benefits from working smarter. Many organisations that had rapidly improvised and implemented Hybrid Working now want to take a more strategic approach.
'Smart Working' is being adopted across sectors, from technology companies, through the financial services sector to the public sector. Andy Lake has supported implementations in businesses and public sector organisations for nearly 30 years, including advising the UK Cabinet Office. He sets out a strategic, comprehensive and integrated approach to Smart Working in the context of new possibilities for working on a more distributed basis, and the impact of new AI-based technologies coming over the horizon. He also explores the possibilities for greater flexibility for workers with hands-on and site-specific roles. Featuring detailed case studies, the book takes a pragmatic and evidence-based approach covering different sectors and types of work, and presents practical techniques for implementing change.
This is essential reading for anyone involved in transformational workplace change and increasing the efficiency of organisations. It is written for managers who need to deliver change, and professionals and researchers in the fields of People, Workplace and Technology.

This book explores the link between environmental knowledge management and the sustainability challenges being faced by organisations, individuals and society. Comprising both theoretical and empirical chapters, the volume describes how knowledge management and organisational learning can help achieve a sustainable tourism sector.
Environmental knowledge has become one of the most important resources for organisations in the current competitive environment. Organisations need to turn their knowledge into agile structures to respond to the challenges resulting from current and future environmental challenges, and from increased competitiveness and social changes. It is therefore important for business decision-making processes to be based on environmental knowledge instead of relying on unconfirmed, often biased information. In this vein, reliable knowledge structures and a framework become an imperative for sustainable development. Development of these innovations shall be addressed through systematic mechanisms such as integration of sustainability and environmental issues, attention to technological innovation, improved absorptive capacity, targeting social challenges as well as investment in human resource development.
The book will be of great value to students and researchers of social sciences with a focus on tourism, human geography, marketing, knowledge management and environmental studies. The chapters in this book were originally published as a special issue of Journal of Sustainable Tourism.

Understanding the power of subliminal influence makes or breaks leaders. What is it that subliminally motivates people to give their best, not just what's in their job description? How do you build an outstanding team? (Spoiler: it's not just by putting the best people in a team.) The answer lies in the power of subliminal influence. This book explains in a clear and accessible way this important, yet little known and understood, area of psychology and leadership.
As Emotional Intelligence helped managers and leaders to understand the importance of empathy in the workplace, Subliminal Leadership takes us to the next level by explaining how influence through non-verbal communication mostly happens below the threshold of our conscious awareness: subliminal forms of body language and communication which influence other people's attitudes, thinking and behavior - and which may boost, or undermine a leader's authority, the performance of teams or the quality of key customer relationships. Readers will learn how we unconsciously communicate and how we positively or negatively influence other people in the process. Understanding subliminal influence will help people in, or aspiring towards, leadership positions to build trust, understand others' emotions, make better decisions, and strengthen professional relationships. Based on recent scientific research in disciplines as diverse as psychology, evolutionary biology, anthropology, medicine, neuroscience, and management studies, the book offers a breakthrough, multidisciplinary approach to influence and leadership.
This book is for everyone interested in the psychological, biological, and medical dimensions of leadership.

The complexity facing today's organizations calls for a rethinking of leadership. The world is facing grand challenges for people and the planet. Leaders and employees bear the responsibility of formulating strategies grounded in strong values. These strategies aim to foster the growth of sustainable organizations and promote ethical work practices. This book gives voice to values-based leadership and provides a method for leaders to develop a values-based organizational culture.
Values play a role on many levels in how we work as individual leaders, in teams, and in organizations and in how organizations approach societal challenges. Values can be a compass or orientation point, giving direction for decisions and actions. Awareness of values can make organizational responsibilities clearer and give a sense of meaning to work and help leaders to create organizations where corporate, moral, and social values are embedded at every level. This book gives insight into a Scandinavian values-based leadership model built on the institutional leadership tradition. It provides processes and practices that leaders can use to develop organizations where values are continuously nurtured. The book provides practical ideas of how leaders can work on becoming conscious of both the organization's explicit and implicit values, as well as working on the direction of the organization and its broader organizational culture.
This book will be an invaluable resource for both practitioners and graduate students interested in leadership and organizational development.

This textbook analyses the origins and effects of insider risk, using multiple real-life case histories to illustrate the principles, and explains how to protect organisations against the risk.
Some of the most problematic risks confronting businesses and organisations of all types stem from the actions of insiders - individuals who betray trust by behaving in potentially harmful ways. Insiders cause material damage to their employers and society, and psychological harm to the colleagues and friends they betray. Even so, many organisations do not have a systematic understanding of the nature and origins of insider risk, and relatively few have a coherent and effective system of protective security measures to defend themselves against that risk. This book describes the environmental and psychological factors that predispose some individuals to become harmful insiders, and the most common pathways by which this happens. It considers how aspects of insider risk have been altered by shifts in society, including our increasing reliance on technology and changes in working patterns. The second half of the book sets out a practical systems-based approach to personnel security - the system of defensive measures used to protect against insider risk. It draws on the best available knowledge from industry and academic research, behavioural science, and practitioner experience to explain how to make personnel security effective at managing the risk while enabling the conduct of business.
This book will be essential reading for students of risk management, security, resilience, cyber security, behavioural science, HR, leadership, and business studies, and of great interest to security practitioners.
