Technology Entrepreneurship in Africa. (Routledge Studies in Entrepreneurship and Small Business) 220 pp. 2026:3 (Routledge, UK) <763-317>
ISBN 978-1-032-86925-4 hard ¥47,228.- (税込) GB£ 155.00
Technology Entrepreneurship in Africa examines how technological innovation, policy reform, and inclusive ecosystems are reshaping the future of business and development across the continent. The book brings together contemporary research, empirical case studies, and practical insights to explore how African entrepreneurs are using technology to solve local challenges, create jobs, and drive sustainable economic transformation. Covering examples from diverse sectors and regions, it highlights how digital platforms, fintech solutions, and artificial intelligence are redefining enterprise creation, while also addressing social and structural inequalities.Written for both academic and general audiences, the book combines theoretical analysis with real-world perspectives to show how entrepreneurs are navigating infrastructural gaps, financial constraints, and institutional complexity. Readers will encounter examples of how mobile money systems expand access to finance, how startups harness renewable energy to promote sustainability, and how young innovators and women-led enterprises are building resilient digital ecosystems. Across fourteen chapters, contributors demonstrate that Africa's technology entrepreneurs are not merely adapting to global trends, they are actively shaping the direction of the global digital economy. This book is both an analytical resource and a call to action. It challenges conventional narratives that frame Africa as a follower in technological innovation and instead presents the continent as a source of creativity, resilience, and leadership. By connecting technology with inclusion, policy, and sustainable growth, the book offers valuable insights for researchers, policymakers, investors, and practitioners committed to advancing equitable and transformative innovation.

Mapping Innovation Management Systems: A Guide to ISO 56001 and Its Principles. 192 pp. 2026:5 (Productivity Pr., US) <763-320>
ISBN 978-1-041-24794-4 hard ¥41,134.- (税込) GB£ 135.00
ISBN 978-1-041-24793-7 paper ¥16,145.- (税込) GB£ 52.99
In a time defined by accelerating complexity, where technological breakthroughs -- from artificial intelligence to blockchain to the emerging contours of Industry 5.0 -- are rapidly reshaping economic and societal landscapes, the capacity to innovate is no longer optional. It is foundational. Yet innovation itself, while often romanticized as spontaneous or disruptive, demands structure, intent, and governance. It requires systems. This book is a timely and relevant contribution to this evolving field. The publication of the ISO 56001 standard in December 2024 marked a significant milestone: for the first time, organizations have access to a formal, certifiable framework dedicated specifically to innovation management systems (IMS). This book both contextualizes and operationalizes that framework.Built around the eight core principles of the ISO 56000 series - ranging from leadership and strategy to value realization, adaptability, systems thinking, and collaboration - this volume translates abstract standards into practical, analytically grounded content. It does so through a structured progression across six chapters and a final annex. Each chapter builds on the ISO 56000 principles to examine not only the theoretical underpinnings of innovation management but also its practical manifestations in organizational life.Drawing from established literature, standards, and real-world practice, this book provides a reliable foundation for anyone seeking to implement or deepen an innovation management system. It will be of particular value to three audiences: practitioners responsible for building innovation capability within their organizations; students eager to understand the logic and structure of innovation systems; and scholars seeking a coherent reference that bridges academic theory with normative frameworks. In this sense, this book is not just a guide to ISO 56001. It is a comprehensive, well-informed resource for engaging with innovation management as a strategic discipline - one that is rigorous, relevant, and indispensable in the present era.

Principal and Emerging Business Risks: A Practical Guide to their Significance, Identification and Management through the Lens of Process Mapping. 216 pp. 2026:5 (Routledge, UK) <763-322>
ISBN 978-1-041-15710-6 hard ¥47,228.- (税込) GB£ 155.00

This book provides listed and limited companies with guidance on the preparation of principal and emerging risks critical to their longevity, performance, reputation and profitability. Principal risks are not prepared in a vacuum and hence their context is described in terms of a risk strategy, policy, framework and process as well as the roles and responsibilities of the board, the audit and risk committee, business units, and the risk function (against the backdrop of the UK Corporate Governance Code 2024). It looks at the rationale for the selection of the principal risks to report, who the prime audience is, readership and the message they provide. The book examines the format of principal risks, how they are reported year-on-year, and the reliance that investors can place on transparency. Evidence has shown, following high profile company collapses, that companies that have not given adequate attention to their principal and emerging risks have paid a very heavy price.Principal and Emerging Business Risks will be invaluable to board members (including non-executive directors), audit and risk committee members, enterprise risk management directors and managers, and risk champions supporting both UK companies listed on the London Stock Exchange Main and AIM markets, and limited companies.

Football, Business and State Power in Contemporary China. (Routledge Research in Sport Business and Management) 194 pp. 2026:4 (Routledge, UK) <763-340>
ISBN 978-1-041-21162-4 hard ¥47,228.- (税込) GB£ 155.00
Football, Business and State Power in Contemporary China investigates the evolving relationship between private enterprise and Party/state authority in the Xi Jinping era, through the lens of the Chinese football industry. In the mid-2010s football emerged as a policy priority of the central leadership, catalysing an unprecedented boom in private investment largely channelled through collaboration with local governments. Conceptualising private-state interactions as strategic social exchange shaped by asymmetric resource dependence, this book shows how firms used football investment to gain access to government-controlled resources. Drawing on interviews with 200 stakeholders, the authors trace the sector's rise and fall, driven by top-down ambition, opaque transactions and improvised regulation. After three decades of aspiring to professionalization and privatization, the Covid-19 pandemic exposed structural vulnerabilities in Chinese football, prompting the widespread re-entry of State-Owned Enterprises as emergency backstops. The book situates these developments within China's political economy, where private firms, despite their outsized contribution to growth, remain embedded in a system of political oversight and strategic compliance. It highlights the role of local governments as key vectors for policy implementation as they navigate fiscal constraints and central political directives through exchanges with the private sector. Using the case of professional football, the authors illuminate how macro- and micro-level political ambition and contingent exchanges shape governance and business in contemporary China, offering insights relevant to industries beyond football. This book will be useful for researchers, students and academics interested in political economy, business studies, political science, and the sociology of sport.

ISBN 978-1-032-82923-4 hard ¥44,181.- (税込) GB£ 145.00
Digital platform organizations have become integral to everyday life, delivering services and products while reshaping entire industries. Yet platforms are only one manifestation of a broader phenomenon: digital business ecosystems. This timely volume explores questions such as: How do digital platforms reconfigure traditional value chains? In what ways do ecosystems enable new forms of collaboration, entrepreneurial activity, and cultural participation? What tensions emerge when ecosystems foster innovation but also create dependencies, exclusion, or algorithmic bias? How do ecosystems affect labour markets, sustainability, and the blurring of boundaries between the physical and virtual? It will be an essential reference text for researchers, students and practitioners interested in the theoretical aspects and practical applications of value creation in digital platform and business ecosystems.

ISBN 978-1-041-08504-1 hard ¥47,228.- (税込) GB£ 155.00
ISBN 978-1-041-08503-4 paper ¥15,841.- (税込) GB£ 51.99
Amid global sustainability difficulties and rising economic uncertainty, this book emphasizes the necessity for integrated strategies that harmonize security, sustainable development, and technological innovation. It helps create robust and transparent frameworks for organizations in dynamic contexts by utilizing advanced tools, including digital technology, renewable energy systems, and strategic knowledge management. The book emphasizes actionable tactics that link global security with sustainable economic advancement. The concepts in the book fundamentally rely on the utilization of digital technologies to improve security management and sustainability initiatives. Blockchain, artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and predictive analytics are examined as essential instruments for maintaining operational resilience and adhering to regulatory requirements. Blockchain provides immutable data records that enhance transparency and trust within organizational ecosystems. This technology facilitates accurate tracking of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) parameters, bolstering stakeholders' trust in the organization's sustainability assertions. Likewise, IoT devices gather real-time data on energy usage, emissions, and supply chain efficiency, facilitating proactive modifications that conform to sustainable development objectives. The book underscores the strategic incorporation of renewable energy sources (RES) into security frameworks, establishing energy systems that are both sustainable and geopolitically stable. Organizations can diminish their reliance on non-renewable energy and enhance economic efficiency and long-term resilience by implementing solar, wind, and other renewable technologies. Improved energy security is essential for maintaining continuity during interruptions and facilitates the worldwide shift towards low-carbon economies. This component of the research demonstrates the relationship between energy sustainability and global security goals.

Fostering Women's Entrepreneurship in Transition Economies: An Entrepreneurial Ecosystem Perspective. (Schriften zur Existenz- und Unternehmensgruendung 11) 312 S. 2025:8 (Kovac, GW) <763-327>
ISBN 978-3-339-14528-4 paper ¥26,237.- (税込) EUR 99.80

The Virtual Universe: Unlocking the Possibilities of the Metaverse. 248 pp. 2026:5 (Columbia Business School, US) <763-328>
ISBN 978-0-231-21768-2 hard ¥6,732.- (税込) US$ 30.00
Will we one day inhabit virtual worlds? From the buzz around Second Life in the early 2000s to Mark Zuckerberg's much-hyped quest for the metaverse, there seems to be a clear pattern. After being touted as revolutionary, virtual worlds fail to meet expectations and fade into obscurity. Yet the dream of an immersive, independent, and interconnected virtual social universe still has the potential to transform the economy, reshape society, and profoundly affect the future of humanity. This book contends that despite shifting trends, the virtual universe remains crucial to the technology of tomorrow-and might arrive sooner than we think. Through vivid examples and detailed case studies, Andreas Kaplan, a pioneering researcher of virtual worlds since the early 2000s, provides a comprehensive examination of the metaverse and its far-reaching implications. Myths about Sustainable Consumption: Dispelled. 264 pp. 2026:3 (Routledge, UK) <763-336>
ISBN 978-1-041-01218-4 hard ¥47,228.- (税込) GB£ 155.00
ISBN 978-1-041-01217-7 paper ¥12,794.- (税込) GB£ 41.99
Why, despite decades of warnings and solutions, does unsustainable consumption still persist? What keeps societies locked into business as usual even when the consequences are clear? This book contends that part of the answer lies in the myths we adhere to-powerful narratives that normalise the status quo, limit imagination, and delay the transition to sustainability.Gathering leading scholars from various disciplines, this book examines twelve of the most widespread myths about sustainable consumption-from the belief that information provision, small individual actions, or technological fixes will deliver sustainability, to the faith in economic growth as the goal of societal development and the idea that consumer demand drives sustainability. Each chapter explores the origin of a specific myth, details its environmental and social impacts, and presents evidence-based counterarguments. Chapters also move beyond critique by offering practical strategies, policy and business implications, and inspiring real-world examples, illustrating how alternative pathways can be implemented in practice. Collectively, the chapters reveal how myths endure through cultural resonance, institutional embedding, daily practices, and political interests, while also providing a clear and applicable framework for diagnosing myths, debating them, and designing alternatives. The book underscores recurring barriers to change but highlights leverage points and opportunities for transformation. This volume will benefit researchers, students, policymakers, business leaders, and engaged citizens seeking to understand why simplistic solutions fall short and how sufficiency, justice, and systemic change can foster more sustainable ways of living within planetary boundaries. It ultimately empowers readers to rethink taken-for-granted assumptions and help accelerate sustainability transformations.

External Stakeholder Management in Projects. (Spon Research) 266 pp. 2026:4 (Routledge, UK) <763-337>
ISBN 978-1-032-99927-2 hard ¥53,322.- (税込) GB£ 175.00
External stakeholders in projects across sectors, such as infrastructure, policy, healthcare, communication, are the set of users, special interest groups and actors that are not a party to the contract but are socially or economically affected by the outcomes of the project. Since these projects create environmental, social and political disruptions in their environment, these external stakeholders bear a majority of the project's negative impacts. These stakeholders express their concerns about the initial phase of the project such as compulsory acquisition of houses and parks, the disruption caused by the implementation phase of the project and its ongoing impacts in the operation phase on lifestyle, health, and wellbeing through protests and sometimes politically motivated public resistance.Managing such stakeholders is important as the success of any project depends on how its deliverables are viewed by the communities on whom its operations impinge. Project management literature notes how visioning, physical outreach, joint co-creation, visualization, interactive workshops and social media engagement, can improve collaboration with external stakeholders in project settings. There is a need to understand the practices, challenges and opportunities for the successful delivery of these projects which this book explores. This edited book includes contributions from authors from Australia, Canada, China, Colombia, India, Ireland, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the US, who record the practice, challenges and opportunities of external stakeholder management in projects across different sectors through case studies. The book seeks to be a valuable resource for all project management academics, researchers and practitioners who are interested in improving external stakeholder management and the successful delivery of these projects.

Roberts, Peter W.,
From Supply and Demand to Numbers, Networks, and Narratives: Confronting the Commodification of Specialty Coffee Producers. 208 pp. 2026:7 (Oxford U. Pr., UK) <763-252>
ISBN 978-0-19-887146-0 hard ¥26,813.- (税込) GB£ 88.00
This book poses an important question for economic sociologists: as expanding specialty coffee markets call for higher-quality coffees produced and transacted in certain ways, why is there not a widespread expectation that the producers who grow these differentiated coffees should receive prices that are commensurate with the economic value they create? Moving past an overly simple economics, Roberts does not accept that problematic specialty coffee pricing is the direct result of ongoing problems with global supply and demand. The real problems are that the people who grow differentiated specialty coffees do not have access to relevant price information and that they have outdated market connections. These numbers and networks problems are exacerbated by a more fundamental problem. Conversations about the value of green specialty coffees remain rooted in an outdated pricing narrative that features global scarcity rather than quality-based differentiation. Roberts outlines a mosaic of promising market interventions that address the numbers and networks problems before explaining why the outdated pricing narrative is so difficult to change. He concludes by offering specific motivations for researchers to explore valuation and pricing in specialty coffee markets. As economists, sociologists, and especially economic sociologists take the coffee industry more seriously, they will turn untrodden research pathways into action-oriented ideas that will transform the global coffee industry by changing how people think and talk about them.

Cultural Mavericks: The Business and Politics of Independent Bookselling in China. 264 pp. 2026:1 (Columbia U. Pr., US) <763-214>
ISBN 978-0-231-20012-7 hard ¥26,928.- (税込) US$ 120.00
ISBN 978-0-231-20013-4 paper ¥6,732.- (税込) US$ 30.00
In recent decades, self-proclaimed "independent bookstores" have arisen across China. In the West, such retailers represent an alternative to corporations and chains. In China, by contrast, they differentiate themselves from not only the state-owned Xinhua Bookstore but also other privately owned shops through an emphasis on intellectual independence and the free exchange of ideas.Cultural Mavericks takes readers inside the world of independent bookselling in China, showing how a wide range of figures navigate the challenges of book retailing in the digital age amid rapidly shifting social, political, and economic dynamics. Drawing on more than a decade of immersive research-including interviews, observations, and extensive documentary analysis-Zheng Liu unveils how these bookstores carve out a unique identity and market position. She develops the concept of "culturally adapted strategy" to explain how independent bookstores-as both dedicated cultural institutions and resilient business enterprises-balance economic imperatives with a deep commitment to intellectual autonomy. Liu challenges the tendency to understand nonstate cultural institutions in China in terms of resistance, arguing that independent bookstores engage with politics as a strategic means of differentiation from the competition.Richly detailed and compellingly written, Cultural Mavericks sheds new light on the interplay among culture, commerce, and politics in China, offering timely insights into the evolving dynamics of China's book industry and wider cultural economy.

Capitalism's Handmaidens: Myth and Women's Enterprise Under Neoliberalism. (Women's Work) 224 pp. 2026:5 (Agenda Pub., UK) <763-185>
ISBN 978-1-78821-595-4 hard ¥21,318.- (税込) US$ 95.00
When we think of a "woman entrepreneur", what comes to mind? Women entrepreneurs hold a dominant presence in political, social, economic and development imaginaries, as a global class of workers typifying the contemporary, neoliberal era. Their enterprise is readily proffered as the evidence of a nation's progress, inclusion and development. International institutions, development banks, states, civil society groups, corporations and international financial institutions promote women's enterprise in nearly every corner of the globe. A powerful mythology has grown up around the idea of women as empowered, financial saviour-mothers who benefit the prosperity, inclusivity, and security of a nation and the global economy. In this book, Melissa Langworthy exposes these myths for what they are and in offering a political economy of women's enterprise, she asks what value women's enterprise gives, not to women, but to the institutions that have shaped them and placed them in the centre of the global imaginary.

Proactivity in Economics: Between Resourcefulness and Entrepreneurship. (Routledge Focus on Economics and Finance) 120 pp. 2026:2 (Routledge, UK) <763-186>
ISBN 978-1-041-28422-2 hard ¥16,145.- (税込) GB£ 52.99
Between plain resourcefulness and full-blooded entrepreneurship lies a middle ground of proactivity which, as this book argues, is a concept that allows economists to make better sense of activity where an individual takes greater agency over their personal outcomes through existing employment or additional activity. In this way, proactivity can help economists develop greater understanding of under-valued or under-studied areas such as employee self-initiative, protean career orientation, gig contracting, and prosumer activism. In theoretical terms: if economics is perceived as the investigation of the logic of human action, this book presents the case for the concept of proactivity being seen as a vital aspect of the process whereby economic agents bring about more desirable states of affairs with the use of scarce means. Through their proactiveness, individuals can combine several conventionally defined economic roles (e.g., conscious consumers and independent producers or frontline workers and quasi-entrepreneurs) and sources of income (e.g. regular wages and performance-based quasi-profits or regular wages and minority shareholder profits). In turn, this makes it possible to identify previously underappreciated sources of economic growth and furnishes additional arguments against ideas - such as economic nationalism - whose implementation is likely to stunt the productive potential of individuals. This book will be of interest to readers in economic theory, entrepreneurship, economic development and behavioural economics.
