Procktor, Rhiannon, The Sexual Offences Act 2003 and Virtual Reality: Applying Criminal Law in the Metaverse. (SpringerBriefs in Law) 88 pp. 2025:11 (Springer, GW) <762-389>
ISBN 978-3-032-10396-3 paper ¥11,827.- (税込) EUR 44.99

This book investigates online sexual interaction and its place within the law. Though this question is not new, the technological landscape is evolving rapidly enough to warrant further analysis. We are witnessing an explosion of virtual and augmented reality technology which outpaces legal development. Relying on multidisciplinary research from computer scientists, psychologists, philosophers, lawyers and engineers, this book explores the place of sexual wrongdoing and justice in this virtual new world. As an example it will focus on the provisions of the Sexual Offences Act 2003: the challenges surrounding physical touch and the ambiguity surrounding gender, deception, and consent in a virtual future.

Becher, Shmuel I. / Alarie, Benjamin, Superjustice: Law in the Age of Artificial Intelligence. 264 pp. 2026:4 (Oxford U. Pr., UK) <762-378>
ISBN 978-0-19-899190-8 hard ¥9,137.- (税込) GB£ 29.99

Justice delayed is justice denied - yet today's legal systems are failing at an unprecedented scale. Courts are backlogged, legal services remain unaffordable, and rigid laws struggle to keep pace with the complexities of modern life. What if we could use artificial intelligence to fundamentally reimagine how justice works? This groundbreaking book presents Superjustice: a revolutionary paradigm that harnesses AI technologies to transform law from a centralized, one-size-fits-all system into a dynamic, responsive framework designed for human flourishing. Moving beyond mere digitization of existing processes, Superjustice envisions a future where: ? Justice becomes a universally accessible service, not a luxury for the few ? Legal gridlock gives way to responsive, data-driven solutions ? Communities gain real power through hybrid decentralized governance models ? Personalized law adapts to individual circumstances while maintaining fairness ? Human wisdom and AI capabilities combine to deliver outcomes impossible for either alone While advancing a novel and innovative CRISPR-J (Cost-effective, Rapid, Inclusive, Smart, Predictive, Resilient Justice) legal framework, this book provides a practical roadmap for implementation. It addresses the fundamental transformations needed in legal education, professional roles, and institutional structures, while mapping and confronting real-world challenges across technical, governance, and societal domains. Neither utopian fantasy nor dystopian warning, this book offers a well-reasoned and pragmatic vision for stakeholder collaboration that can transform justice from a scarce resource into an abundant one.

Branting, L. Karl, Equalizing Justice: Harnessing AI for Litigants Without Lawyers. 390 pp. 2026:7 (Cambridge U. Pr., UK) <762-379>
ISBN 978-1-009-77943-2 hard ¥35,040.- (税込) GB£ 115.00
ISBN 978-1-009-77946-3 paper ¥11,578.- (税込) GB£ 38.00

Millions of individuals worldwide struggle to understand and assert their legal rights without legal representation. Equalizing Justice examines how AI and other technologies can address this access to justice crisis by providing unrepresented litigants with knowledge and skills traditionally available only through lawyers. This volume takes a needs-first approach, identifying tasks that unrepresented litigants must complete and mapping specific technologies to each task, such as generative AI, computational logic, and document automation. The book highlights real-world applications, demonstrating proven impact, and presents case studies and interviews to explore both the potential positive outcomes and potential challenges of AI for access to justice. Equalizing Justice proves that AI technologies offer unprecedented opportunities to create equitable justice systems serving everyone, not just those who can afford representation. The volume argues for legal AI assistants as a public good that should be accessible to all.

Di Porto, Fabiana / Pollicino, Oreste (eds.), Law and Politics of Virtual Worlds: How NFTs and Metaverse are Reshaping Legal Systems. (Law, Governance and Technology Series 79) 304 pp. 2026:2 (Springer, GW) <762-380>
ISBN 978-3-032-08540-5 hard ¥42,060.- (税込) EUR 159.99

This book offers a timely and in-depth analysis of how Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) and metaverse technologies are reshaping key legal concepts and regulatory frameworks in the digital age. As blockchain-based assets and immersive virtual environments gain traction across industries-from finance and art to gaming and social interaction-they challenge foundational assumptions about property, contract, jurisdiction, and democratic governance. NFTs and Metaverses versus Law explores the legal disruptions triggered by these technologies through a multidimensional structure that blends doctrinal insight with regulatory and policy relevance. The volume is organized into six thematic parts: it opens by clarifying core terminology and the constitutional implications of digital governance, then addresses how NFTs interact with financial market rules and investor protection. It examines the redefinition of ownership through tokenization, the challenges of smart contract enforceability, the risks of market concentration in decentralized ecosystems, and the emerging tensions between data protection and personalization in virtual spaces. Throughout, the book highlights regulatory gaps and tensions, especially in transnational digital contexts where territorial sovereignty collides with borderless code. Drawing on developments in the European Union-such as the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR), the Digital Services Act (DSA), and the Digital Markets Act (DMA)-the analysis connects legal theory with concrete regulatory responses. Accessible yet rigorous, this work speaks to scholars, practitioners, and regulators alike. It provides both analytical tools and practical perspectives for navigating legal change in an era where digital assets hold real-world value and virtual worlds increasingly intersect with our social, economic, and legal systems. NFTs and Metaverses versus Law does not merely describe a transformation in legal thinking-it contributes to shaping its direction.

≫Titel: The Claim for Damages under Data Protection Law Pursuant to Article 82 GDPR. Analysis of Research and Case Law in the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Austria≪: In recent years, thousands of data protection claims for damages have been filed under Article 82 General Data Protection Regulation. Although some issues have already been clarified by ECJ case law, numerous questions remain unanswered. For example, it is still disputed whether infringements of the right of access or IT security already constitute infringements within the meaning of Article 82 GDPR and it has not yet been fully clarified when a person has suffered non-material damage.
