An analysis of global retweet networks shows that users from the Global South are significantly underrepresented and that higher climate vulnerability is negatively associated with visibility. Civil society organizations emerge as crucial brokers of information across regions, amplifying voices otherwise excluded from international debate.The findings are set against the normative assumptions of public sphere theory and the principles of climate justice.

It concludes that liberalism is a weak ally, too closely dependent on lifestyles that run counter to ecology. For its part, "ecofascism" as a sort of ecological extreme conservatism is a contradictory ideology, in the sense that no fascism will ever be "ecologist," even if some moderate forms of conservatism may exhibit common features. On the other hand, the tradition of critical socialism in modernity has strong similarities with ecologism. It is therefore only on this side of the political spectrum that alliances are possible. Finally, this book shows that these latter traditions of thought are compatible with what some call "pluriversalism," provided that universalism and emancipation are not lost along the way.

As private companies assume a growing role in climate adaptation, their strategies may harm society and ecosystems unless grounded in responsible business conduct. This Element offers a new perspective on responsible business conduct in climate adaptation, presenting a theoretical framework that explains how regulatory and political factors external to firms influence their consideration of societal needs when adapting to climate change. Using a novel quantitative and qualitative dataset, the Element shows that the world's largest mining companies have primarily addressed climate risks through conventional corporate social responsibility strategies rather than procedural components of responsible business conduct, such as risk assessments, participation, and transparency. The results suggest this outcome is best explained by a combination of weak governance, lax voluntary standards, and civil society advocacy. Drawing on extensive qualitative field research, the book provides a detailed account of the vulnerability of older adults in a coastal sub-district in Bangladesh. The analysis draws on in-depth interviews with older men and women, whose narratives provide a powerful perspective on life before, during, and after catastrophic weather events. These accounts reveal an ongoing cycle of vulnerability in which cyclones and floods not only destroy material assets such as homes and livelihoods but also cause profound physical and psychological trauma. The resulting disruption of social support networks, loss of income, and forced migration to survive further exacerbate their insecurity. The study identifies several major causes of vulnerability, including the geophysical exposure of the coastal region, the prevalence of non-resilient housing, profound income insecurity, and a high degree of dependence on family support systems. The analysis carefully distinguishes between formal state initiatives, such as the Old Age Allowance, and informal support systems rooted in community and kinship. It shows how formal programmes can strengthen financial stability and ensure access to essentials, while informal networks provide immediate support and practical assistance in the aftermath of a disaster.
