Growth changes an organization, and it changes what leadership requires.

This book provides leaders with a practical framework for navigating organizational growth while preserving values and strengthening performance through strategic redesign. Organized around five growth altitudes-Runway, Takeoff, Flying, Soaring, and Planned Landing-the book helps leaders understand why practices that once fueled success can later constrain performance. Readers will gain tools to identify growth challenges early, use workplace strengths, and implement stage-specific redesigns that enhance performance, accountability, and culture. Full of actionable frameworks, diagnostics, and real-world insights from a 25-year founder-led growth journey, the book offers clarity and confidence in scaling organizations effectively, including what to redesign first, how to sequence changes effectively, and how to maintain organizational culture and values throughout periods of rapid expansion.

Ideal for founders, CEOs, senior leaders, and HR professionals in mission-driven organizations, professional services, and social enterprises, this book is the key to balancing growth, performance accountability, and values preservation.

This book revisits one of management theory's most enduring aspirations, the learning organisation, through three decades of research, practice, and reflection. Structured in three temporal layers (1993, 2013, and 2026), the book traces the evolution of cyber-systemic Human Resource Development from its origins in Stafford Beer's Viable System Model and Soft Systems Methodologies, through empirical field research with leading German corporations, to a deepened contemporary understanding of how organisations can genuinely learn, self-regulate, and regenerate.

The book offers a rigorous yet reflective framework for moving HRD beyond individual learning toward collective and organisational learning, grounded in management cybernetics, second-order systems thinking, and the author's thirty years of corporate and consultancy practice.

It will appeal to HR practitioners, organisational developers, management consultants, and systems thinkers who sense the persistent gap between the concept of the learning organisation and organisational realities. Researchers in systems sciences, cybernetics, and organisation studies will find both a historically significant primary text and a theoretically rich contemporary synthesis.

Readers will gain conceptual tools and practical models for designing self-reflective, resilient organisations, and an invitation to let the question of organisational learning evolve into a lived, generative understanding.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Business and Human Rights (BHR) have long been studied in parallel, yet their fragmented development has contributed to a persistent corporate accountability gap. This book bridges these disciplines, offering a fresh, integrated perspective on how corporations can be effectively held accountable for their social, environmental and human rights obligations. Through critical analysis of existing theories, national and international regulatory frameworks, and real-world case studies, this volume identifies key shortcomings in voluntary CSR approaches and the limitations of the predominantly soft-law architecture embodied in the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, and explores the need for stronger, enforceable mechanisms. It introduces the innovative CSR Regulatory Framework and Integrated CSR-BHR Framework, providing structured pathways for prioritizing corporate responsibilities while ensuring meaningful accountability. Additionally, it proposes a groundbreaking International MNC Accountability Framework, addressing jurisdictional challenges and enhancing access to justice for victims of corporate misconduct. A vital resource for academics, researchers, advanced students, and policymakers, this book redefines corporate responsibility in a globalized world, moving beyond rhetoric to practical solutions for sustainable and ethical business conduct.

Personal credibility is key to being successful and effective in the workplace. But with only some organisations having Human Resources (HR) representation at the top level, despite its strategic importance, it is often difficult for HR professionals to get their voices heard, to be taken seriously, and to have the influence and impact in the organisation they want and need.

In order to have influence and impact, HR professionals must be able to effectively communicate their credibility - the requisite knowledge and skills, expertise and capability. This book will show them how. It is a practical 'how to' guide that HR professionals can use to adapt their behaviour and approach to communicate their credibility at the most senior level whilst still remaining professional, authentic and ethical. The book provides an in-depth examination of credibility, what it is, and what it isn't, explaining its vital importance in achieving influence and impact, using a tried and tested, practical framework, that enables the reader to communicate their credibility in any situation.

The book is specifically written for people in HR roles, and has been researched, designed and tailored to address real-life issues and concerns.

The book explores how capitalism has adapted to a state of constant danger and global risks, packaging disasters, mass death, and human sorrows as commodities for exchange, in an ever-changing and uncertain world.

This book examines the emergence of 'Thana-Capitalism' as an evolutionary stage of risk society where the expansion of global trade and mobility has created a new stage of capitalism in which death is commoditized and consumed worldwide. Building on the first edition, this book offers a fresh, critical discussion on topics such as terrorism, the humanitarian crisis, the role of ICE in the US, and the crisis of hospitality. It also unveils the lasting effects of COVID-19 and the War in the Middle East. This edition explores how media logic has turned disaster into a criterion for attraction and consumption, from dark tourism practices, which involve visiting sites of mass death and sorrow, to the cultural entertainment industry.

The Rise of Thana Capitalism and Tourism 2nd Edition will be valuable for students, scientists, professionals, tourism researchers, and policymakers concerned with the future of global capitalism and the current ecological crisis.

The book shows how managing directors/ CEO create room for growth through the three key roles of the CEO Office - the CEO, the Chief of Staff (CoS), and the Executive Business Partner (EBP).

Many tasks. Little time. Constant decisions.

Anyone leading a company today has to take decisions at speed, solve problems, lead people, and think about tomorrow-all without losing sight of day-to-day operations. For many managing directors, this reality becomes a critical burden. With every additional responsibility, it becomes harder to maintain oversight and ensure that everything runs as planned.

The CEO Office is a structured leadership system that redistributes responsibility to create greater clarity, speed, and impact. It is designed to reduce operational overload, strengthen strategic decision-making, and coordinate internal processes so that leaders can regain time for what truly matters-especially in complex situations. The three roles within the CEO Office are strategically interlinked, enabling clear accountability and effective collaboration.

Discover how to position your company for the future despite a full to-do list-while also clearing your own head. Case studies from mid-sized companies, practical frameworks, and ready-to-use checklists make the system immediately applicable, including in your organization.

The central theme of this book is the innovative startup ecosystem in universities, with a particular focus on emerging and transitioning economies across Asia and Africa. Through a series of richly detailed chapters, this volume investigates how universities in countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam, India, and South Africa contribute to economic development by nurturing startups, facilitating technology transfer, and establishing business incubators. Using case studies, process documentation research, and field-based evidence, the book captures both institutional innovations and policy-level engagements that foster entrepreneurship and support MSMEs in diverse sectors including agriculture, aquaculture, digital services, and renewable technologies.

By integrating theory with grounded practice, this book offers a rare glimpse into the operationalisation of innovation at the university level highlighting success stories, challenges, and lessons learned in fostering startup culture in non-Western contexts. It demonstrates how academic institutions are transforming into entrepreneurial hubs, driving social and economic transformation. The reader will gain both conceptual clarity and empirical depth regarding how universities can align research, teaching, and outreach missions with startup development.

This first part of a two-volume work offers a comprehensive exploration of China's ambitious "Made in China 2025" initiative and its broader geopolitical implications. By examining China's strategic shift from a low-cost manufacturing hub to a high-tech powerhouse, chapters provide a critical assessment of the initiative's progress and its impact on global economic dynamics.

In this volume, chapters explore the idea that MIC 2025 operates not merely as an acadeonomic development programme, but as a mechanism for strategic decoupling - a deliberate restructuring of global production networks aimed at insulating China from external vulnerabilities.

Through expert contributions, readers will gain insights into the challenges and opportunities presented by China's industrial strategies, including the semiconductor "chips war" and the new global bipolarity centered around technology and innovation. An essential read for scholars and practitioners in international political economy, Chinese studies, and global economic governance, it offers a nuanced understanding of China's evolving role on the global stage, making it a valuable resource for graduate-level courses and research institutions focused on contemporary China. With its interdisciplinary approach, the book provides a holistic view of China's rise and its implications for the future of global economic and strategic competition.

The book provides a comprehensive overview of mathematical optimization models and techniques for solving facility location problems. It equips students with the theoretical foundations and practical knowledge needed to analyze real-world location planning problems, as well as to use and adapt optimization models and methods suited for these tasks. To support this, the book offers detailed explanations of the optimization theory underlying the methods used to solve the presented location problems. In particular, it discusses Lagrangian relaxation and duality, subgradient optimization, column generation, and Benders' decomposition in substantial depth.

Each chapter concludes with a set of exercises, some of which take the form of case studies that, while fictitious, reflect realistic applications. The book is further supplemented by a Python package, pyloa. At the end of each chapter, examples show how classes and routines from this package can be applied to solve selected location problems introduced in the chapter.

This book is intended for graduate students in operations research, applied mathematics, mathematics-economics, industrial engineering, and business administration with a focus on analytics or quantitative methods. It is also a valuable resource for university instructors designing 5-15 ECTS courses on location-planning optimization, as well as for researchers and practitioners seeking a thorough introduction to optimisation models and methods for facility location planning.

This book examines the dynamics of knowledge spillovers, sectoral innovation, and firm-level productivity within Vietnam's manufacturing industries. Using Spatial Regression Models and Cross-Classified Models, it analyzes the effects of R&D, foreign direct investment, and trade activities on innovation across 38 sectors and 62 provinces in Vietnam. The findings in the book support the predominance of intra-industry spillovers, aligning with the Marshall hypothesis rather than Jacobs externalities. Sectoral innovation is shown to be positively influenced by R&D and export activities, while FDI and imports exhibit negative associations. At the firm level, characteristics such as size, capital intensity, and export orientation consistently correlate with higher total factor productivity. The book also explores the lagged positive effects of sectoral innovation and provincial human resource externalities on firm productivity, offering insights into the spatial and structural determinants of industrial performance. This book would be an insightful read for those interested in Vietnam's industrial sectors.

From Risk to Resilience challenges how decisions are made in an era defined not only by climate disruption, but by systemic uncertainty. Traditional risk models rely on historical data and stable assumptions. Yet across infrastructure, financial markets, and national systems, these foundations are breaking down, creating a widening gap between modeled risk and real-world uncertainty.

Sharron L. McPherson introduces The Resilience Method (TM), a decision-grade framework that enables governments, investors, and infrastructure leaders to assess whether systems, assets, and communities will remain viable over time. Moving beyond risk mitigation, she reframes resilience as a strategic discipline for operating under uncertainty.Drawing on three decades of experience across finance, law, and policy, and fieldwork across five continents, she connects complex risk signals to real-world decisions. This is a practical framework for navigating volatility, allocating capital with greater confidence, and building systems that endure.

This book explores Chinese engagement in Africa's mining sector within the context of international business. Conceptual and empirical contributions by diverse authors examine mining activities of Chinese companies in several African countries. Emerging from those contributions is a theory of minimal investment, defined as the degree to which the companies invest minimally in African operations, communities, and countries just for them to get by (i.e., function as normal).

The volume presents four conditions that explain why minimal investment persists as a dominant logic of foreign firm behaviour in Africa. Institutions permit it, strategies enact it, heritage legitimizes it, and reactions stabilize it. Minimal investment has produced order, and order is safety both for firms and often for host institutions alike. Optimal investment, by contrast, introduces 'danger' because it changes the status quo, redistributes power, and mitigates African rather than firm risk. The Theory of Minimal Investment (TMI) reveals how underinvestment is an intentional, albeit seemingly rational, historically embedded, and institutionally sustained strategy of engagement.

Coming at a time in which African countries are seeing a surge of Chinese interest in Africa, this book offers a cautionary tale of the consequences of organizations seeking the 'help' of Chinese companies. It will appeal to International Business studies and strategy researchers interested in interorganizational relationships, particularly from the African perspective.

This book offers a groundbreaking exploration into the elusive concept of arrogance, providing a comprehensive review that builds upon the fragmented and often silent literature. It delves into the intricate relationships between arrogance, leadership, and organizational culture, offering insights that are crucial for enhancing leadership effectiveness and workplace environments. By examining arrogance through various lenses, the authors challenge the notion that its consequences are solely negative, proposing instead that it may play a role in creativity and renewal.

Key concepts explored include the origins and development of arrogance, its distinction from similar constructs, and its impact on leadership and organizational dynamics. The authors present a nuanced analysis of arrogance as both a state and a trait, its emotional triggers, and its measurement through innovative qualitative methods. The book also investigates the potential benefits of arrogance in fostering creativity and innovation, as well as the emerging relationship between arrogance and artificial intelligence.

Ideal for scholars, students, and professionals in business and management, Arrogance in the Workplace is an essential resource for those seeking to understand and address arrogant behavior in leadership and organizational settings. This timely volume is a must-read for anyone interested in the complexities of human behavior and its impact on organizational success.

This proceedings volume offers the latest developments in information and communication technologies (ICTs) in the tourism and hospitality industry. Feature papers presented at the International Federation of IT and Travel & Tourism (IFITT)'s 33rd Annual ENTER International e-Tourism Conference held in Breda, The Netherlands, this book demonstrates the breadth and maturity of contemporary eTourism research with strong focus on AI including large language models (LLMs), GenAI as a research instrument, AI-driven personalization, and the ethical implications of automation. The volume further emphasizes digital ecosystems and governance, with research on smart destinations, digital distribution, blockchain adoption, ICT lifecycles in tourism SMEs, and city metrics.

Information and communication technologies (ICTs) continue to revolutionize travel, tourism, and hospitality. Over 30+ years, the ENTER eTourism conference has been at the forefront of providing insight on the use and impact of new technologies for travel, tourism and hospitality practitioners and researchers. However, the rapid development and deployment of new developments, including generative AI (GenAI), service robotics, IoT, and Extended Realities (XR) technologies, among others, call for a rapid and careful reassessment of ICT in tourism, particularly including ethical and societal considerations.

Bridging the gap between visionary research and practical implementation to foster resilient tourism systems that serve businesses, communities, and the planet, this book is valuable to scholars, researchers, students, and practitioners in tourism and hospitality.

This book is a timely addition to the growing body of research on the intersection between sustainability initiatives, climate change, and how these efforts can help transition the world to a greener and more equitable path by 2050. The time for action on sustainability is now. Global climate change, environmental degradation, and the depletion of natural resources pose existential threats to our planet and humanity. The edited volume charts an ambitious yet achievable course toward a more sustainable future.

The book is organised into five thematic parts that mirror the multifaceted nature of sustainability. The opening section lays the conceptual and analytical foundations for global sustainability transitions, addressing finance, governance, behavioral change, urban resilience, and sustainable tourism. Subsequent sections examine the transformative role of education, research and innovation; the strategic and operational implications of the circular economy; the potential of renewable energy, digitalisation and artificial intelligence to support greener systems; and the social and economic dimensions that underpin equitable and just transitions. Together, these contributions illustrate that sustainability is not the responsibility of a single sector or discipline, but a shared societal endeavour requiring coordinated action across multiple levels.

This book presents a groundbreaking interdisciplinary approach to business transformation by applying Jungian analytical psychology and alchemical symbolism to organizational development. Drawing on depth psychology, literary criticism, and strategic management, it reveals how enterprises can evolve from the factual enterprise-fixated on operational efficiency-to the total enterprise, integrating unconscious dimensions, archetypal identity, and symbolic meaning. The transformation unfolds through three alchemical phases: Nigredo (deconstructing corporate myths and confronting shadow material), Albedo (distilling strategic paradoxes), and Rubedo (integrating opposites into living cultural infrastructure). Real-life business cases illuminate each phase, enriched by literary imagery, philosophy, and visual arts. This rigorous yet flexible framework of individuation empowers leaders, consultants, and scholars to achieve authentic organizational transformation beyond superficial branding. Essential for anyone exploring Jungian organizational studies, psychoanalytic business approaches, corporate identity development, and alternative methodologies for sustainable enterprise transformation.
