ケインズとマクロ経済学-雇用、金融、持続可能性の代替的理論
Heise, Arne, Keynes and Macroeconomics: An Alternative Theory of Employment, Finance and Sustainability. (Routledge Frontiers of Political Economy) 256 pp. 2026:6 (Routledge, UK) <765-187>
ISBN 978-1-041-19134-6 hard ¥47,910.- (税込) GB£ 155.00

In 1936 John Maynard Keynes published a book that he believed would revolutionize the way the world thinks about economic problems: The General Theory of Employment, Interest, and Money. Although the book became the foundation of a particular approach to economic theorizing-later termed macroeconomics, in contrast to the microeconomics of the neoclassical school, which had just begun to dominate the discipline in the early decades of the 20th century-it can be argued that Keynes never achieved what Thomas Kuhn described as a scientific revolution: a true paradigm shift. This book not only revisits the debate on the 'revolution that never was' within a philosophy of science framework-one that clearly distinguishes between paradigmatic variations and paradigmatic alternatives, thus differentiating between economic orthodoxy and heterodoxy-but also argues that the 'Keynesian revolution' of the 1940s and 1950s was merely the orthodox response to ward off a genuine paradigm shift. This was made possible by the epistemological flexibility of the orthodox tradition on the one hand and, also, by the shortcomings in Keynes's theorizing and methodological exposition. An alternative is presented that attempts to extend and supplement what Keynes called a 'Monetary Theory of Production' - offering links to modern discussions about financialisation and sustainability. The book will be of interest to all readers seeking alternatives to mainstream economics, advocating for a pluralistic approach to the discipline, and looking for a key to understanding the different strands of Post-Keynesianism.

Kuhn, Rick, Paradise on the Instalment Plan: The Economic Thought of the Australian Labour Movement between the Depression and the Long Boom. (Historical Materialism Book Series 380) 468 pp. 2026:4 (Brill, NE) <765-188>
ISBN 978-90-04-75672-4 hard ¥47,718.- (税込) EUR 180.00

Contemporary labour movement thinking about the Australian economy took shape between the depression of the 1930s and the long post-war boom, in the form of moderate and, today much diminished, left nationalist currents. Economic conditions, the level of the class struggle and the political proclivities of different classes, particularly as expressed in the working class's main organisations - the Australian Labor Party (ALP), Communist Party of Australia (CPA) and trade unions. This study focuses on labour movement understandings of three fundamental aspects of Australian capitalism: the country's place in the world; its class structure; and its experience of severe economic fluctuations.

信用のツール-20世紀における経営予測
Lenel, Laetitia, Tools of Trust: Business Forecasting in the Twentieth Century. (Historical Perspectives on Modern Economics) 470 pp. 2026:8 (Cambridge U. Pr., UK) <765-189>
ISBN 978-1-009-48319-3 hard ¥40,183.- (税込) GB£ 130.00

How is it possible that economists generally fail to foresee recession, yet forecasting has never lost its appeal and importance? Using a combination of published scientific and technical literature, newspaper articles as well as archival material from thirty-three research sites in six countries, Tools of Trust looks for an answer to this question. It tells the history of business forecasting in the twentieth century, tracing the emergence and fundamental transformations of forecasting techniques and their role in economic and political decision-making. It investigates how the role of business forecasting has changed and how this has transformed economic and political decision-making. Offering a nuanced understanding of the crucial role forecasting plays in managing economic uncertainty, this book examines how unforeseen economic crises have paradoxically reinforced the importance of forecasting, turning it into an indispensable tool to reduce economic uncertainty and stabilize the capitalist order.

Rupprecht, Tobias, The Tragedy of Soviet Market Economists: The Failed Quest to Civilise Russia, 1972-2022. 372 pp. 2026:8 (Cambridge U. Pr., UK) <765-190>
ISBN 978-1-009-73697-8 hard ¥30,910.- (税込) GB£ 100.00
ISBN 978-1-009-73698-5 paper ¥9,891.- (税込) GB£ 32.00

In this pathbreaking history, Tobias Rupprecht offers a revisionist account of Russia's post-Soviet marketisation from the perspective of the advisors and ministers who oversaw this transformation. Based on extensive interviews with economists and research in state and private archives, he uncovers a significant minority of economic liberals from late Soviet academic and dissident circles who sought to chart a new path, believing free prices and private property were the foundations of a 'civilised country'. This provides a vital challenge to the dominant narrative that neoliberal advisors and organisations imposed harmful reforms on Russia after the collapse of Communism. Liberal reformers faced a profound dilemma - one for which Western advisors had no solution either: Should they commit to democratic political activism and risk irrelevance, or align themselves with those in power and be co-opted by an authoritarian state determined to re-assert its imperial strength?
