≫Maritime Arbitration in New York City. Legal History of the Development of an Independent Maritime Arbitration Jurisdiction≪: This thesis examines the emergence of maritime arbitration in New York City since the colonial period on the basis of previously unresearched original sources and selected arbitration awards from various institutions. The associations of merchants and the diverse maritime trade customs are of paramount importance. They laid the foundation for the establishment of the Society of Maritime Arbitrators in New York City in 1963, which is described in detail.
