This book presents an interdisciplinary approach to just price theory, focusing on the conceptual and normative (moral, legal, and political) implications of the concept of the just price. This volume brings together world-leading experts in the fields of political and legal philosophy to explore the political economy of justice in pricing and socio-legal aspects surrounding the idea of just prices. Divided in two parts, the first set of chapters explores the relevance of various normative criteria that might serve as a benchmark for assessing market prices from the standpoint of justice. The second part of the book addresses some of the institutional factors that are relevant in discussions about justice in pricing, exploring the role that legal and social norms play in evaluating whether market institutions are justice-preserving or not.
Perfect for scholars and students in the fields of jurisprudence, ethics, political philosophy, philosophy of economics, and private law theory.

Addressing the issue of scale in governance, legal and extra-legal, the book draws on post-colonial studies, Indigenous geography and empirical and historical studies of the legal logics of Empire.
This book examines legal frameworks across six descending scales. Beginning with a global perspective centred on Global South viewpoints and globalisation critiques, it then explores imperial legal structures. Next, it addresses the nation-state scale, predominant in both mainstream and critical legal scholarship, with particular focus on challenging notions of ethnic homogeneity. The examination continues at the local level, analysing how various governing bodies exercise authority within their jurisdictions. It then narrows to consider 'home' as both a physical and legal construct, revealing how property concepts intertwine with social relationships. Finally, it investigates the human body as a governance site through queer legal studies, queer geography, and feminist scholarship that documents how female bodies specifically have become objects of legal and extra-legal control. Concluding by considering the regulatory dilemmas that have plagued authorities as they navigate the various scales of governance considered here.
Explorations in Legal Geography will be of considerable interest to students and scholars of legal geography, socio-legal studies, and criminology.

The Routledge Handbook of Eco-Phenomenology is a comprehensive exploration of how we, as humans, interact with and perceive the natural world. Spanning seven thematic sections, this wide-ranging collection gathers contributions from leading scholars in philosophy, theology, anthropology, literature, music studies, and environmental thought. Together, over 30 chapters offer fresh perspectives on how we inhabit a more-than-human world.
At the heart of this volume is the dynamic intersection of phenomenology - a philosophical tradition attentive to embodied experience - and environmental ethics, inviting readers to rethink assumptions about activism, passivity, and ecological responsibility. Rather than advancing a unified doctrine, the chapters explore eco-phenomenology as a field of ongoing tension and dialogue, attentive to receptivity, perception, and the ethical demands of a world that exceeds us.
Key themes include re-evaluations of human embodiment in relation to nature, the role of perception in understanding our ecological entanglements, and cultural attitudes that challenge human exceptionalism. Literary explorations and reflections on music deepen the inquiry, showing how the arts open distinct pathways of attunement to the environment. The volume culminates in critical dialogues between eco-phenomenology and other intellectual traditions, including posthumanism, Indigenous cosmologies, and enactivism.
More than an academic survey, this handbook is an invitation to rethink environmental engagement as a mode of being rooted in care, vulnerability, and attentiveness to the Earth as our shared home. It is essential reading for scholars, researchers, and students in philosophy, environmental studies, anthropology, literature, and the arts.

This book provides an indispensable source for understanding Korean economic and political views. It compiles select news commentaries on the impact of international law on Korean domestic markets and politics from 2010 to 2020.
Each section of the book begins with an original essay by the author discussing core issues covered by the news commentaries. Articles then follow, providing at-the-time analysis of the interactions between international law and international relations, as well as the interaction between domestic and international law. Many of the issues, such as China-US relations and refugee policy, are of global relevance, and the thematic clusters will give the readers and students a picture of:
* how international law actually operates in the field,
* how international law and international relations interact, and
* how legal discourse is taking place in the global and domestic community in this process.
Written with a colloquial tone and colourful idioms, this supplementary reading is perfect for students looking to enrich their understanding of how law lies behind newspaper headlines. It will also be of interest to scholars and instructors of international economic law, Korean studies, and international relations.

This groundbreaking monograph offers a comprehensive legal and conceptual analysis of hybrid warfare and hybrid threats-two evolving challenges that blur the boundaries between war and peace. Drawing from international law, political science, and security studies, the book explores how states and non-state actors exploit legal, informational, and cyber tools to undermine adversaries without crossing the threshold of conventional warfare. With in-depth case studies and a critical review of doctrines from NATO, the EU, China, and Russia, the author maps the conceptual thresholds that distinguish hybrid threats from hybrid warfare. The book introduces "hybrid legality" as a framework to understand how international humanitarian law, human rights law, and sovereignty norms are manipulated in modern conflicts. Emphasizing the risks of conceptual ambiguity, it warns against the overuse of terms like "hybrid war" and "hybrid attack," which may lead to alarm fatigue and legal confusion. Instead, it argues for precision and interdisciplinary insight to confront these threats effectively. With a unique focus on legal thresholds and norms, the volume is essential reading for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners navigating today's increasingly multipolar and legally ambiguous security environment.

Anxiety, Psychoanalysis and Law examines the challenges of maintaining a psychoanalytic stance when working in chaotic times, with international contributors reflecting not only on their work with severely disturbed patients, but also during times of massive disturbances in society.
Presented in five parts, the book considers war, violence, society, pandemics and the family, with chapters reflecting on environmental destruction, new technologies, women's healthcare, digital media and racial injustices. This cutting-edge collection also considers whether it is possible to make sense of these ambiguous and confusing times by looking at the issues from individual clinical work with patients who have had contact with the judicial process - from the bottom up.
Anxiety, Psychoanalysis and Law will be essential reading for psychoanalysts in practice and in training, as well as psychiatrists, psychologists and social and political scientists interested in global anxiety and the challenges facing society.

For commercial organisations, certainty and stability are essential. Yet unexpected events-and shifting economic or geopolitical conditions-frequently pose serious risks. One of the most effective tools for mitigating such risks is insurance. This edited volume explores key developments in commercial insurance law, examining both doctrinal issues and their relationship with real-world market practice. It also addresses emerging trends, offering a contemporary perspective on how insurance law is evolving in response to legal, technological, and global changes. The discussion ranges across national and international contexts.
The book is divided into four parts. The first parts analyse recent statutory and judicial developments in English law, assessing their impact on market practice. The authors also explore niche insurance sectors and comparative law perspectives. The third part focuses on technology-driven developments and the legal questions they raise. The final part addresses post-settlement issues, such as subrogation and the rights of assignees. In this area, longstanding principles have recently been tested in courts, yielding some unexpected-and practically significant-outcomes.
Commercial Insurance Law is for lawyers and administrators not only in England and Wales but worldwide, including international commercial centres such as Germany, Switzerland, Greece, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and India. It will also be of interest to specialist law libraries in Europe and the USA, specialist maritime law firms in the USA, and university libraries where maritime and shipping law are taught as specialist subjects.

This collection explores questions of rights and justice from theoretical and practical perspectives, by examining examples of the process and application of the law. The book brings together leading experts and early career academics to consider the application of rights, the achievability of justice and the methods available within varied legal frameworks to secure this. It offers a distinct approach by drawing contributions from a wide range of intellectual arenas thus breaking down legal silos and highlighting the interplay between different subjects. Authors confront the conceptual challenges of rights and justice, beginning with broad constitutional discussions in international and domestic contexts. The book examines institutions, procedure and matters of rights and justice located in numerous social contexts such as regarding interests in - or the protection of - property and the avoidance of discrimination or the protection of beliefs at work. For the younger generation, such questions are long term and, in many ways, evolving. Each chapter offers fascinating insight to support ongoing reflections on rights and justice in the modern world. The book will be of interest to scholars, students and practitioners with interests in human rights, socio-legal studies, areas of law such as family law, criminal law, employment law, as well as access to justice and constitutional justice.

This book focuses on the geographical and geopolitical sources for Carl Schmitt's multilayered political thinking in order to uncover the relation between the political and the geographical aspects of his concept of space from 1939 to 1950. The aim is therefore to open up a field of enquiry, specifically to investigate Schmitt's sources in the geographical and geopolitical literature inside and outside Germany in order to reconstruct the genealogy of his idea of space, territory and international order. In doing so, the contributors aim both to distinguish concepts that have generally been only vaguely defined in the literature on Schmitt, namely his idea of space, political territory and land, and to define more precisely the relationship between Schmitt's Grossraum and the National Socialist Lebensraum.
This book refers to, complements and goes beyond three different approaches - International Relations, geography and philology: First, in that it explores the genealogy of Schmitt's concept of space by adopting a twofold methodology of intellectual history and philology; second, in that it considers the relevance of language in Schmitt's discourse on power and space; third, in that it relates Schmitt's thinking to the transnational literature on geopolitics and political geography.
Geo - Political Spaces will appeal to academics and the well-informed public at large. It is also suitable for academic teaching, especially when it comes to historical theory, the concept of space or the history of political thought.

This volume provides a thorough reconsideration of libertarian theory, offering novel perspectives that challenge established assumptions and initiate new directions for philosophical, legal and economic investigation.
By tackling such topics as voluntariness, dignity and inalienability of rights, game theory, healthcare, and the political relevance of monarchy, the chapters provide readers with novel analytical instruments for delving more deeply into libertarianism. Through detailed examinations of such issues as fraud, blackmail, slavery, liability, and technological disruption, contributors reconsider the foundations of libertarian principles while demonstrating how they apply to pressing contemporary practical problems. The book offers critical reassessments of established doctrines and constructive proposals for reformulating libertarianism, while trying to remedy its theoretical weaknesses. In doing so, it furnishes its readers with a framework that helps to understand both the theoretical coherence and the practical adaptability of libertarian ideas, ensuring its relevance for philosophers, legal theorists, economists, and policymakers alike.
The book will be of great interest to political economists, political philosophers, political scientists, ethicists, and everyone in libertarianism in all its forms.

Using a thematic approach to American law and legal history, The Common Law Tradition in America introduces readers to the scholars, judges, and critics who made the law at once a stable source of rules and a dynamic system capable of responding to social and economic changes.
Beginning with the common law "at home" in England on the eve of the American Revolution, the book introduces readers to the scholarly Sir William Blackstone, the activist judge Lord Mansfield, and the radical critic Jeremy Bentham. Having established the themes of tradition, innovation, and criticism, the book then examines the challenges that faced the common law in America: written constitutions, a new form of legal education, and the rapidly growing number of statutes. Finally, using selected examples, the book demonstrates the continuing influence of these themes in present American law.
As befits "a personal statement," The Common Law Tradition in America is written in a relaxed style, enlivened with engaging anecdotes. It offers law students, researchers of legal history, practicing lawyers, and the general reader an overview of law and legal development, above the technicalities of law school and practice.

This collection examines Chile's two recent efforts to replace its constitution, both of which ultimately failed despite broad initial support. Drawing global media and scholarly attention, these high-profile processes offer critical lessons for understanding the challenges of democratic constitution making.
The book features contributions from constitutional lawyers, political scientists, and other experts, including seven constitution writers, providing both academic analysis and firsthand accounts. It explores the institutional design of the constitution-making bodies, the influence of Chile's political context, the substantive proposals advanced in key policy areas, and the behavior of political actors and voters. It also offers insider evaluations of institutional and procedural choices that either supported or undermined the process.
This volume is a key resource for scholars and policymakers interested in constitutional design, institutional reform, and Latin American politics. Readers in political science, constitutional law, and Latin American studies will find its analysis of Chile's process both informative and timely. Its interdisciplinary approach-blending comparative, legal, and empirical perspectives with practitioner insight-ensures broad relevance and appeal.

This book explores the epistemological, semiotic, semantic, and heuristic dimensions of the dark emotions in constitutional and international law. We are living in times of crisis and emergency where negative emotions and dark feelings are abundant. As these have come to form the intellectual and socio-legal context for the performance of constitutional and international law, this book explores their place - especially the politics of fear, but also anger, hate, despair, and crisis - in our current constitutional polycrisis. Focusing on this 'dark constitutionalism', the book draws together an international and interdisciplinary range of scholars to consider the place of emotive semiotics in collective meaning making, the constitutional politics of emotions, and emotional approaches to global challenges in a time of crisis, emergency, and transition. The book thereby develops a compelling analysis of the use of negative emotions in the shaping of contemporary constitutional imaginaries, and with it a novel account of the rise of dark constitutionalism. This book will appeal to researchers and scholars working in the areas of legal theory, legal philosophy, constitutional law, international law, and socio-legal studies.

This book provides in-depth critical analysis of the international legal framework on violence against women and, crucially, the need for reform of this framework. Violence against women occurs in every state worldwide and constitutes one of the most prevalent human rights abuses at the global level. However, none of the UN treaties refer specifically to violence against women. The book argues that there is a pressing need for legally binding provisions to be adopted at the global level on this issue. Two forms which such provisions could take are considered. These are, firstly, an Optional Protocol to the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women; and secondly, a stand-alone UN treaty on violence against women. The book's intended audience includes academics and researchers from a wide variety of disciplines, such as human rights, international law, criminal law, criminology, social policy, gender studies and sociology; as well as practitioners and those in the voluntary sector who are working in the area of combating violence against women. The book could also be used beneficially on courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels which incorporate the topic of violence against women.

This book argues that there are weaknesses in the international systems of socio-economic rights protection and that these weaknesses can be mitigated or overcome through the practice of interaction between these systems. The work examines the international protection of socio-economic rights and shows that it is vulnerable in terms of its personal and material scope, its content and the extent of permissible limitations.
Against this background, it explores the role of interaction between legal orders as a tool for improving this protection. Based on a large-scale survey of explicit cross-referencing across a substantial number of monitoring bodies, courts and systems in cases and other jurisprudential outputs, the book assesses the extent to which interaction takes place in the context of the international protection of socio-economic rights. Drawing on its own conceptual framework of interaction between legal orders, it then illustrates the dynamics of how interaction has been used to mitigate or overcome the weaknesses of international protection and to advance this protection. While also recognising the shortcomings, the work calls for better interactive practices and sets out criteria that should inform interactive practices going forward.
The book will be a valuable resource for academics, researchers, judges and policy-makers working in the areas of International Human Rights Law, Social Justice, Political Science and International Relations.

This collection explores the intricate legal, conceptual, and material relationship between genocide and the ocean. Traversing a wide range of topics, it brings into conversation numerous legal regimes that are too rarely considered in relation to one another-including, but not limited to, the international legal regime on genocide, international human rights and refugee law, the law of the sea, international cultural heritage law and environmental law, the law of self-determination, and the criminality of maritime violence.
Recognising that the relationship between genocide and the ocean exceeds what law alone can comprehensively capture through its own internal logic, contributors move beyond traditional doctrinal analysis to engage interdisciplinary perspectives. These include insights from criminology, geography/environmental science, moral/political philosophy, history, and international relations theory. Bringing together legal scholars and practitioners from across Europe, Latin America, Asia and the United States, this collection reflects both disciplinary and geographic diversity.
By bridging legal analysis with broader critical inquiry, this volume will be of interest to academics, researchers, and policymakers working in the areas of International Criminal Law, International Human Rights Law, International Environmental Law, International Refugee Law, International Humanitarian Law, Legal History and the Law of the Sea.

The subject of international environmental law is fraught with debate over its legitimacy and efficacy. If laws without enforcement are merely good advice, then how can the environment be meaningfully protected by international legal institutions? This book examines that question through the lens of marine conservation, focusing on the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) and the Captain Paul Watson Foundation (CPWF) as non-state actors intervening directly to enforce international marine conservation laws.
The book unfolds in three parts, moving from Soundings, which explores the legal and historical foundations of marine conservation law, to Currents, which traces the emergence of direct-action enforcement and its necessity in instances where states lack the means, will, or jurisdiction to act, and finally to Horizons, which looks ahead to the emerging landscape of ocean governance beyond the state. In these later chapters, the book examines the increasing criminalization of environmental activism, the rise of Indigenous-led and decentralised enforcement models, and the plural legal imaginaries reshaping what legitimacy might mean in a post-sovereign world.
Grounded in bio- and ecocentric legal theory, and drawing on legal analysis, political critique, and detailed campaign case studies, the book challenges the assumption that enforcement is the sole domain of the nation-state. Instead, it argues that legitimacy may derive not from formal authority, but from the courage to uphold laws that institutions have abandoned. In doing so, this book reframes direct action as being essential to the law's integrity: the upholding of a shared responsibility to conserve our oceans. For when legality becomes illusion, resistance may be the most just act of all. In this sea of fallen standards, the pirate flag may be the only one worth flying.

The book asks whether the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI (GenAI) in international arbitration represents a revolution or an evolution of the international dispute resolution landscape.
Critically engaging with the transformative impact of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), this book focuses on the integration of AI and GenAI into international commercial arbitration. Set against the backdrop of rapid technological advancement, it explores how arbitral tribunals and stakeholders are cautiously yet progressively adopting these innovations in a manner that respects and preserves the foundational principles of arbitration. Through an interdisciplinary and practice-oriented approach, the book examines the evolving role of AI in arbitration. It analyzes how AI is perceived and applied by parties, arbitral institutions, and arbitrators, as well as assesses the legal frameworks in place to govern it. Offering a balanced analysis of both the opportunities and legal and ethical dilemmas posed by emerging technologies, the book asks if a duty of disclosure is relevant in relation to AI use, and what challenges this might entail. It also covers the status of AI-generated arbitral awards under international law, as well as copyright law.
This book will be of interest to researchers in the field of international arbitration and commercial law.

This book addresses the injustices associated with renewable energy development and use within the context of the energy transition.
Primarily informed by a communitarian approach to energy justice, the book draws on the philosophical concept of African communitarianism as a guiding principle. This concept emphasises harmonious or communal relationships among members of a political and social community, making it easier to justify solutions to renewable energy injustices, in contrast to an individualistic approach. The book argues that international law can facilitate this approach to energy justice by adapting existing norms, standards, practices, and institutions. Adopting the unfair distribution of renewable energy benefits in the international community as a test case, the book contributes to existing energy justice scholarship by highlighting the significant contribution of non-Western philosophies in addressing renewable energy injustices. It also repositions international law as a tool for operationalising this approach to energy justice.
The book will be of interest to researchers, policymakers, international governmental organisations, and civil society.

Philosophical debates about personal identity have long been divided between psychological and physical approaches, each seeking to ground identity in different mental or biological facts. Yet, this familiar dichotomy has led to a theoretical impasse, with neither side securing decisive support.
In response, a growing body of work proposes an alternative framework, holding that facts about personal identity depend, at least in part, on our person-directed attitudes and practices. This view is commonly known as conventionalism about personal identity.
This volume presents the first comprehensive examination of this novel perspective. Bringing together some of the most influential philosophers in the field, these original essays explore conventionalism's metaphysical and ethical dimensions, its relationship to neighbouring views, and the challenges it must address as it continues to gain prominence in the personal identity literature.
Conventionalism About Personal Identity provides a timely and accessible guide to this increasingly influential approach. It will be of particular interest to scholars and advanced students of philosophy, especially those working on both traditional and emerging theories of personal identity.

The Routledge International Handbook of Sensory Criminology reimagines what criminology can become when we take the senses seriously. Centring the sensory as fundamental to the experience of harm, justice, and resistance, this groundbreaking volume brings together 29 chapters from scholars across disciplines, career stages, and geographies. Together, they explore how power is heard, felt, inhaled, touched, and moved through, from courtrooms and prisons to museums, marine ecologies, colonial archives, transitional spaces, high-crime zones, and urban streets.
The Handbook opens up new pathways for criminological inquiry, offering rich, situated analysis of how the sensory shapes and is shaped by structures of criminalisation, exclusion, and survival. Contributors engage themes including punishment, victimhood, environmental harm, archival memory, decolonial justice, and innovative methodologies. Rather than offering a prescriptive vision, the volume offers a provocation: to expand the criminological imagination and embrace new ways of knowing, sensing, and intervening.
This Handbook is an essential reading for students, scholars, and early career researchers in criminology, sociology, law, anthropology, geography, gender studies, politics, and cultural studies, as well as those interested in decolonial approaches, sensory methods, and interdisciplinary justice research.

This monograph analyses controversial trial outcomes (both civil and criminal) through a post-structural feminist lens of narrative creation. It considers how narratives are constructed in trials and how the admission or exclusion of evidence can lead to the formation of distorted narratives that produce flawed outcomes.
The book discusses contemporary evidential challenges surrounding the societal and legal framing of 'truth' within the Anglo-American trial process. It applies a post-structural feminist approach to examine how facts and rules are interpreted through the construction of legal stories. Chapters are organised to address key themes in high profile cases from around the globe. These include the cases of George Cardinal Pell, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, Lawyer X, Brittany Higgins and Kathleen Folbigg. This book departs from previous publications, such as those with a traditional feminist perspective, in that it presents both sides of the distorted lens where a defendant is written into a story as both guilty and innocent. Its focus on cognitive and narrative processes provides insight into the role of narratives and evidence construction in the trial process, and how such processes are used by legal advocates.
This book would be of interest to scholars of legal psychology, criminology and socio-legal studies. It will also interest scholars and students of Evidence law, especially those studying miscarriages of justice.

As the United Nations Convention against Corruption celebrates 20 years, there could be a sense that anti-corruption discourses, policies, and practices are settling into a stable, consensus-driven phase. This edited volume argues they are not.
Bringing together perspectives from around the world, this book captures the turbulent contemporary practice of anti-corruption. It shows it to be an arena in which domestic and transnational politics play out, shaping outcomes in often unpredictable ways. The purpose and means of this policy field are disputed and reinterpreted. Populist and illiberal leaders hijack anti-corruption to target opponents, restrict media and civil society, or even legitimise authoritarian rule. However, new forms of collective action and technology are emerging to forge novel paths forward.
Through various chapters, ranging from Russia to Brazil and Sri Lanka to the United Kingdom, the book shines a light on the contestation and abuse of contemporary anti-corruption, as well as on the innovation emerging to tackle one of the world's most pressing problems. The book looks to the future to consider the anti-corruption we need to meet the challenges of a discordant world.
This book will be an essential read for students, researchers, professionals, and activists interested in how anti-corruption practice unfolds in a volatile age.

This book examines how Gustav Radbruch, H. L. A. Hart, and Ernst-Wolfgang Boeckenfoerde each addressed the question of the end of law, its function, and its normative foundation within the context of the modern legal and political order. Through a politico-theological reading, it highlights the tension between legal validity and moral legitimacy, as well as the extent to which law can maintain public order without compromising its own claim to justice.
The analysis of Radbruch, Hart, and Boeckenfoerde sheds light on how valid law can become unjust, demanding actions that may conflict with individual judgment or morality. It raises questions about natural law, the relationship between morality and law, and law's ultimate purpose, suggesting that law and politics represent, at best, a relative good. It addresses the broader crisis of legal authority and state sovereignty, the expanding reach of state power, and whether law should instruct, command, or ultimately point beyond itself.
The End of Law is of interest to scholars in legal theory, political theology, and the philosophy of law.

This work highlights survivors' voices in the exploration of police violence and homicide in the United States. Making vital connections between U.S. colonialism, structured and deputized violence, history of policing, and armed resistance by grassroots movements, the authors expand readers' understanding of the purpose of U.S. policing.
Responding to data that showed that in 2016 and 2017, more than 135 children and teens lost their lives to police violence, the author team traveled to multiple locations across the United States to sit with, learn from, and capture survivors' stories and experiences. Utilizing in-depth and public interviews, the book presents breathtaking, honest, and heart-wrenching narratives surrounding the impact of youth killed by police on the family, community, and activists. This book makes important connections between colonialism, the history of police corruption, and police killings of marginalized groups. Survivors' narratives provide important, nuanced information surrounding the impact of youth killed by police, often with impunity, on friends, family, and loved ones of the victims.
Synthesizing these stories with an overview of the state of policing in the United States, this scholarship extends recommendations and strategies for organizers, activists, students, and scholars to redefine public safety, as well as police power and accountability, in Black, Brown, Indigenous, and poor communities.

The Routledge Handbook of Gender and Corruption showcases the most innovative and exciting research being conducted in this area of study, providing a comprehensive go-to reference for all who are interested in the topic.
In the last two decades, there has been an increasing awareness of the importance of understanding the nexus between gender and corruption in terms of understanding the way men and women experience corruption and the differential impact of anti-corruption frameworks on men and women, as well as an understanding of how women in different spaces affect the prevalence and kinds of corruption. This Handbook examines these issues as well as the role of social and gender norms in relation to corruption. This understanding is crucial for our ability to design anti-corruption frameworks that are effective and do not create unintended consequences for any group. Despite the importance of this issue, there remains a lack of in-depth, analytical, and geographically diverse investigations into the nexus of gender and corruption. This book addresses this gap by providing a comprehensive, multidisciplinary, geographically balanced treatise on gender and corruption. This book combines sectoral, thematic, and country-specific studies to allow readers to easily compare differing perspectives and approaches on cutting-edge issues and their implications for gender and corruption. Key sectors such as education, politics, public procurement, healthcare, sport, sanitation, and immigration are considered, as well as the role of new technologies, in supporting whistleblowing.
This Handbook provides academics, practitioners, and graduate researchers of public policy, public administration, law, and anti-corruption with all of the tools they need to understand the nuances of gender and corruption.

Contract law and international trade are two significant and distinct areas of legal practice that often intersect. While rooted in the standard contract law syllabus, this comprehensive advanced textbook seeks to examine the interaction between contract law rules and international trade regulation. It blends in-depth discussion of the most important traditional legal concepts in both these areas of the law with a careful analysis of emerging issues and more contemporary topics, such as digital contracting, trade in services, and the Europeanisation of contract law at the level of the European Union.
Facilitating engagement with the subject matter in a way that bridges foundational legal principles and contemporary debates, the authors provide a rigorous intellectual analysis of the law, where both precedents and applicable legislation are discussed critically. A comparative analysis is offered between English common law, which is used as the constant yardstick, and its EU counterpart. Focusing on key themes such as globalisation, IT and digitalisation, ESG and sustainability, the Covid-19 pandemic, Brexit and human rights, this book allows readers to deepen their knowledge and understanding of contract law and international trade regulation while developing an appreciation of the contemporary relevance of these areas of the law and their challenges.
Contract Law and International Trade Regulation will be a valuable text for advanced undergraduate and postgraduate law students.

This book examines the effectiveness and limitations of existing body image law, and proposes evidence-based regulatory alternatives informed by public health and psychology research.
Poor body image affects millions of people worldwide, and, despite the body positivity movement, the pressure on women in Western countries to have smaller bodies continues to cause significant harm to many. This book contributes to improving this, through drawing on evidence from research which outlines the harm excessive social media use and exposure to models with smaller bodies can cause to an individual's body image. It explores the regulatory efforts of governments in Israel, France and Norway which passed Body Image Laws, and failed attempts to pass bills in this area in Canada, the United Kingdom, Brazil and the United States. This book analyses the outcome of BMI requirements for catwalk fashion models, warning messages on digitally altered images and prosecuting pro-anorexia content creators. It asks why the current forms of body image law do not align with significant findings from public health and psychology. This book offers a compelling, evidence-based overview of body image as it intersects with law. It argues that body image law in its current form is unlikely to be effective and makes suggestions for evidence-based approaches instead.
This book will be of interest to researchers concerned with body image and the law as it relates to public health law, social media law and advertising law and anyone who has poor body image, an eating disorder or knows someone who has.

As the maritime industry undergoes a technological transformation, traditional legal doctrines must evolve to address new challenges. This book explores the legal and operational implications of Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) and the increasing reliance on digital systems in modern shipping. While automation and digitalisation enhance efficiency and safety, they also introduce unprecedented cyber risks that threaten global supply chains, financial stability and regulatory compliance. Redefining the concept of seaworthiness by incorporating cyber-worthiness and communication-worthiness, this book ensures that vessels are not only physically fit for sea travel but also resilient against cyber threats and equipped with secure communication systems.
By analysing international regulations such as UNCLOS, SOLAS, STCW, and marine insurance frameworks, the book identifies critical legal gaps and proposes necessary updates to align with the digital age. Through a legal and interdisciplinary approach, the book offers practical recommendations for policymakers, insurers and maritime operators. It outlines robust cybersecurity measures, updates to insurance policies and regulatory frameworks that safeguard against evolving cyber threats.
Providing maritime lawyers, insurers, shipowners and policymakers with clear guidance on how to navigate legal uncertainties surrounding autonomous vessels, cybersecurity risks and liability issues, the book offers practical solutions for insurance policies, charterparties and contractual clauses, ensuring that risks associated with cyber threats, remote operation and digital failures are adequately addressed. For practitioners, this book solves pressing legal and operational problems. It clarifies how existing maritime regulations (such as UNCLOS, SOLAS, and the ISM Code) apply to autonomous and digitalised ships, identifies gaps in current legal frameworks, and proposes necessary updates to ensure compliance.
