Drawing on a decade of research and more than 580 interviews, this innovative political economy case study explores Rwanda's bold attempt to transform its economy after the 1994 genocide into one of the most rapidly growing countries in Africa. Pritish Behuria offers a multi-sector analysis of how globalisation and domestic politics shape contemporary development challenges. This study critically analyses the Rwandan Patriotic Front's ambitions to reshape Rwanda into a regional services hub while grappling with foreign dependency, elite vulnerability and limited financial resources. Through extensive analysis of the political economy of multiple sectors and the macro-economy, Behuria uses the Rwandan case as a window into answering why structural transformation remains so elusive on the continent. The Political Economy of Rwanda's Rise provides fresh insights into highlighting the contemporary challenges facing African countries as they integrate into the global economy. This title is also available as open access on Cambridge Core.

Unlock the full potential of quantitative trading with Prescriptions for Quant Traders Using R-a practical, hands-on guide for turning data into trading decisions.

This book is written for quantitative traders, financial analysts, and data scientists who want more than theory. Organized into ten structured parts, it delivers step-by-step "prescriptions" using R-script-driven tasks that solve real-world trading problems. Each prescription is designed to be immediately actionable, so readers can move from concept to implementation without guesswork.

What makes this book different is its clarity, utility, and its link to online video walk-throughs of R scripts. The text flows seamlessly without interruptions, yet a comprehensive bibliography ensures depth and rigor. Every chapter blends explanation with executable code, enabling traders to:

  • Design systematic trading strategies in R - and understand why they work.
  • Apply robust statistical and econometric methods to financial data for better predictions.
  • Evaluate risk and performance metrics to refine strategies with confidence.
  • Automate workflows so insights move faster from model to market.

Whether you are a retail trader aiming to compete with professionals, a financial analyst seeking sharper models, or a data scientist expanding into trading, this book bridges the gap between theory and practice.

Readers will find special value in the prescription-based approach. Just as a doctor prescribes remedies, these scripts deliver targeted solutions to trading challenges-from portfolio optimization and volatility forecasting to Bayesian inference and machine learning integration.

In a marketplace where retail participation continues to grow, Prescriptions for Quant Traders Using R equips you with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to approach trading systematically. The result: deeper insights, stronger discipline, and strategies that stand the test of real-world markets.

Whether you're coding your first model or refining a sophisticated strategy, this book provides the prescriptions you need to succeed.

Supporting Equitable Assessment for Multilingual Learners of English introduces the E5 model of equitable assessment, an original ramework developed by the authors to guide fair and culturally responsive evaluation of multilingual learners of English. The model integrates five guiding principles: equity, equality, educational justice, equanimity, and empowerment, across three interrelated dimensions: affective, social-moral, and technical. Drawing on research, professional expertise, and lived classroom experience, the book examines the historical context of language assessment as well as its policies, the central role of emotional well-being, and the balance between content rigor and language accessibility. Each chapter combines conceptual foundations with practical tools, adaptable rubrics, and reflection prompts that enable educators to design assessments fostering student agency, cultural relevance, and academic mastery. The authors also address emerging opportunities and challenges, including the integration of technology, the impacts of global migration, and shifts in educational policy. By centering student voice and identity, this book provides educators, leaders, and policymakers with actionable strategies for building assessment systems that are academically rigorous, culturally grounded, and responsive to the evolving needs of today's students.

John A. Broadus (1827-95) was a highly influential Southern Baptist leader, preacher, scholar, and educator during the latter half of the nineteenth century. He cofounded the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, which today is among the largest seminaries in the world. Broadus's enduring impact on American preaching stems in part from his 1870 homiletics manual, a widely adopted textbook that ministers continue to use today. A prominent southerner before and after the Civil War, Broadus actively shaped his region during the shift from the Old South to the New. Eric C. Smith's Between Worlds-the first scholarly biography of Broadus-joins recent historical scholarship in reevaluating Broadus's legacy.

Although the unattested language of Proto-Indo-European has been studied for over 200 years, the greater part of this literature has focused on its phonology and morphology, with comparatively little known of its syntax. This book aims to redress the balance by reconstructing the syntax of relative clauses. It examines evidence from a wide range of archaic Indo-European languages, analysing them through the lens of generative linguistic theory. It also explains the methodological challenges of syntactic reconstruction and how they may be tackled. Ram-Prasad also alights on a wide range of points of comparative interest, including pronominal morphology, discourse movement and Wackernagel's Law. This book will appeal to classicists interested in understanding the Latin and Greek languages in their Indo-European context, as well as to trained comparative philologists and historical linguists with particular interests in syntax and reconstruction.

How do Indian men and women migrant entrepreneurs play a part in repositioning India as a pivotal actor in the twenty-first century's multipolar world order? In Becoming Boundless, Manashi Ray draws on ethnographic and archival research to uncover how they create and participate in transnational networks, and how these networks in turn drive the growth of global capitalism. Ray pays particular attention to the expansive global networks of transnational Indian entrepreneurs between the United States and India and across several other nations.

Covering a 10-year period in India's post-reform era, Ray deftly highlights complex connections between the social and spatial mobility of this diverse, bi-cultural population, and uniquely theorizes the intersection of class, caste, and gender. She questions whether migration reinforces dominant forms of social inequality or transforms it through the redistribution of valued goods and life chances, especially for women in male-dominated sectors. The book therefore recasts contemporary migration as a crucial part of the emergence of transnational economic spaces, and analyzes the ways that these spaces are fragmented and hierarchical.

God and the First Families offers a novel exploration of God's role as a parent in the book of Genesis. Compellingly, author Stephen Spector introduces Americans' four main perceptions of God and their four most common styles of parenting as lenses through which we can reckon with God's own methods of parenting in the first biblical book.

God begins as an authoritarian parent who demands obedience and submission to authority, but shifts in striking ways. Next, God's parenting seems entirely benevolent. Stunningly, God reverts to authoritarianism during the near sacrifice of Isaac-but then invents a new parenting style focused on guiding the characters' moral and emotional growth. Many psychologists consider this the most successful childrearing method. Genesis reached that conclusion two and a half millennia ago!

Throughout, Spector engages with familiar stories-sibling rivalries, family ruptures, traumas-from unexpected angles. He dramatizes how parental love in Genesis builds resilience against trauma, another idea validated by modern psychology. Surviving trauma, healing from parental favoritism, repairing broken relationships, earning forgiveness, possibly even reconciling after injury-Genesis offers wisdom on all.

This book examines men in powerful positions who question relations of power and domination from within. Through an intersectional lens, it illustrates how gender, class and other dimensions of domination intertwine and how an emancipatory critique can emerge from such privileged positions.

Drawing on interviews with 23 current and former male executives from the Swiss financial sector alongside autobiographical accounts, the study analyses patterns of what the author terms "emancipatory eutopian critique" - focusing less on critique as heroic opposition and more on transformations towards caring relationships. From fathers abandoning lucrative careers to care for children to executives embracing caring and responsible leadership, these narratives illuminate "eutopian transformations", showing how an orientation towards caring relations to the self and others in the present can create more dialogical and caring futures. The analysis demonstrates how privilege can become a site of resistance and offers theoretical tools, including "gender as mosaic".

Aimed at scholars, policy-makers, practitioners and students interested in links between men, masculinities, organisations and social transformation, this book is an invaluable resource for those working in and beyond such fields as gender studies, critical studies on men and masculinities, organisation and leadership studies, political science, sociology, social and public policy, and social movement studies.

Highlighting how the financialization-driven economy has played a significant role in exacerbating the climate crisis, particularly in the Global South, this book examines the relationship between the prevailing economic model and its environmental impact.

The chapters in this edited volume focus on two key themes within the Latin American context: the various manifestations of nature's financialization, particularly through the operations of transnational mining companies, and the consequences of an increasingly financialized neo-extractivism, and the new forms of financial mechanisms for supporting the energy transition. Overall, the book studies the connections between the financial sphere, the constraints on economic-social development, and the preservation of the environment from the perspective of post-Keynesian and Marxist discussions on financialization, the debates of Latin American structuralism around underdevelopment and dependency, and radical political ecology.

This book will be of interest to readers of heterodox perspectives on the economy, environment, and development.

Why do so many attempts to use digital tech to help the world's poor ultimately end in failure? Digital Inclusion in an Unequal World provides a detailed critique of previous theory and practice, while also proposing practical and realistic suggestions for good practice.

This book combines longer thematic chapters by Tim Unwin, one of the world's leading thinkers on ICT for development, with shorter vignettes from other experts across a range of different practical, intellectual, and geographical backgrounds. The book argues that the global geo-politico-economic agendas associated with the use of digital tech in development in late-capitalism raise pressing issues around instrumentalism, individualism, and empowerment. This context drives short-termism and an innovation fetish around current hot topics, such as EdTech, Blockchain, and Artificial Intelligence. The world's poorest and most marginalised people are failing to benefit from the use of digital technology, whilst the world's Digital Barons continue to accrue profits. Unwin emphasises the importance of crafting a responsibilities agenda that will shift the dial, enabling practitioners to avoid common pitfalls and transform good intent into good practices.

This book is a highly readable guide for the global community of development practitioners, government officials, and civil society organisations involved in delivering digital tech initiatives. Students from the fields of international development, computer science, electronic engineering, geography, and economics will also benefit from its expert insights.

This volume sheds light on underexplored aspects of voluntarism that were extensively debated in the thirteenth- and fourteenth-century philosophy and theology. By charting a map of complex and multifaceted debates on the will, it provides insight into approaches to ethics and moral psychology that sprouted in the later Middle Ages and sparked various arguments and methods for defending the freedom of the will.

Although interest in medieval ethics has increased in recent years, these studies mainly examine the concept of virtues, happiness, the freedom of the will, and the will-intellect interplay. These studies pay little attention to fourteenth-century ethics and largely neglect theories of action, the conditionality of the will, and will-time issues. The chapters in this volume illuminate new approaches and reveal the multiple facets of the will debate that emerged in the late medieval period. They address a wide range of topics such as second-order volitions, non-velle and nolle acts of the will, conditionality of the will, increase and decrease in the intensity of willing, the ethics/metaphysics and ethics/physics intersections, and the role the will played in explaining social and political phenomena.

The Will Discourse in Late Medieval Philosophy and Theology will be of interest to scholars and advanced students working on medieval philosophy and theology, moral philosophy, philosophy of mind, and action theory.

In the 1930s, American government began to transform in a way that its Founders simply could not foresee. The public sector grew exponentially, creating a demand for revenue across national, state, and local levels. The absence of provisions in the U.S. Constitution for fiscal coordination meant that, much to the dismay of policy experts, the country developed a complex and incoherent multi-level structure of taxation. Today, highly variant state tax policies are a core driver of economic competition and political warfare between the states. Moving back and forth between statehouses and Washington, D.C., Coordination Failure examines key moments (the 1930s, 1960s, 1980s, and 2010s) in which major changes in state-level tax policy occurred alongside debates over intergovernmental relations. Adam Myers analyses failed efforts at federal-state tax coordination policy in the 1930s and the debate over, and eventual passage of, fiscal federalism reform in the 1960s-1970s, before turning to the present, when state tax policy is subject to partisanship for the first time in modern American history. The book's key contribution is in showing how, throughout the past 95 years, state and national tax policy decisions have influenced each other in an iterative fashion. At a deeper level, Myers provides an answer to the question of why and how the U.S. established a dramatically different form of fiscal federalism from that which exists in the world's other federal democracies.

Both general linguists and Slavic specialists will find the Slavic verb to be a rich source of linguistic data. This book offers insights that contribute to a deeper understanding of both the Slavic languages and language structure more broadly.
The first volume of this two-part work presents studies on the Slavic verb from a comparative perspective, focusing on analyses involving two or more Slavic languages. It includes contributions on verbal aspect (including biaspectuality, the East Slavic perfective, and the perfective present), semelfactive verbs, the pluperfect, phasal verbs, dative reflexive constructions, and anankastic modals. The empirical data span a broad range of Slavic languages-including Croatian, Russian, Serbian, Slovene dialects in Friuli, and Stokavian dialects in Albania-as well as studies adopting a cross-Slavic approach.

For far too long, emerging markets and developing countries have played a subservient role in the global economy.

This book builds a compelling case that a new settlement is needed, that rebalances power, well beyond existing arrangements such as the G20, and creates a shared vision to build economic growth and prosperity. The alternative is a world which lurches from crisis to conflict, jeopardising peace and prosperity. The very phrase "emerging markets" connotes that some countries are still developing and cannot compete with mostly Western global economic heavyweights. But the rise of China and India has not been isolated phenomena, with many other emerged countries also becoming confident about their place in the world: these are emerged markets, not the Global South or the Third World. Although these emerged countries now dominate global trade and investment and are the biggest champions of globalisation, their dramatic increase in economic weight has not led to a commensurate increase in clout and influence on the world stage, due to fundamentally unchanged World War II-ra structures and apparatus.

Written by a global economics insider who has been in the room in multilateral, national, and private sector organisations, this book argues that the developed and emerged worlds should be positioned as equal economic partners, requiring dramatic adjustments in perceptions and power on the part of the developed world. Though clear-yed about the ills that continue to exist in the emerged world, Vasuki Shastry explains why rich countries should be willing and open to learn from their success stories. He presents a reimagined narrative for the global economy, with more collaboration, less finger-ointing, and a confluence of equals in managing profound economic risks and opportunities, now and in the future. Leaders in business, NGOs, and government, as well as students of business and international relations, will appreciate this thoughtful examination of what could happen if emerged and developed markets worked as equal partners for the common good.

This book tells the story of Walmart's expansion in China, making the case that it is the story of a major shift in the structure of global capitalism. Walmart, argues Eileen Otis, is a leading actor in the rise of merchant capitalism, wherein the role of the merchant has changed from operating at the whim of industrialists, to leveraging control over large consumer markets. As Walmart's retail business grew at unprecedented rates across the globe, so too did this business model.

Walmart: Made in China documents the business's expansion into China not as a tale of seamless market entry, but as a case of frictions, improvisations, and labor struggles that reveal deeper transformations in global economic power. Drawing on years of fieldwork in Walmart stores across China, Otis traces an internal supply chain-from warehouse to checkout-where workers stock, promote, explain, and process goods under varying regimes of control. These labor regimes, structured by gender, migration, surveillance, and corporate rules and culture, as well as managerial oversight, reveal how capitalist value is realized, and how it can be contested.

At the heart of her analysis is the rise of a new system - merchant capitalism - in which control over consumer markets, rather than production, drives profit. Thus, Walmart: Made in China offers a compelling account of this shift in global capitalism, as it gets made and remade, on the retail floor.

The persistence of extractivism in Latin America is a central issue in contemporary debates on global sustainability and the curse of the energy transition.

This book explores these pressing concerns by analyzing the tensions between the energy transition, extractivism, and green development in Latin America. While important parts of the world economy are beginning to decarbonize and industrialized nations promote sustainability initiatives, resource extraction continues to play a fundamental role in the political, economic, and social landscapes of the Global South. The international expert contributors to this volume examine whether the emerging sustainability paradigm based on energy transition represents an alternative or merely a reconfiguration of historical extractivist structures. The first few chapters of the book critically examine the unsustainability of extractivism and therefore the historical and contemporary challenges of resource dependency. It presents case studies of countries such as Bolivia, Venezuela, and Argentina, illustrating how extractivist states have struggled with governance dilemmas, environmental degradation, and socio-political resistance. The following chapters focus on the challenges for the green economy, investigating the intersection between sustainability and structural economic constraints, addressing the risks of green extractivism, and exploring whether Latin America can escape the cycle of resource dependency.

Through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates political economy, sociology, environmental science, and development studies, this book provides a nuanced understanding of Latin America's resource dilemmas in the context of global energy transitions.

The number of people in the world with a bank account or money service provider increased by 2 billion over the past decade. This phenomenon reflects what Tyler Girard calls the global financial inclusion agenda. This agenda emerged in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis and quickly became a prominent feature of global economic governance. The core idea of financial inclusion is that all individuals and businesses should have access to and use formal financial services, including bank accounts, payment services, credit, and insurance. Today, the widespread ability to digitally store and transfer money has impacted every aspect of our lives. What explains the emergence and evolution of the global financial inclusion agenda? And what does the politics of the agenda tell us about the impacts of new technologies on global politics and how ideas become global agendas? Drawing on an original collection of primary documents and interviews with elites from Ghana, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Switzerland, this book traces the global financial inclusion agenda over time and interrogates its adaptation in specific contexts and issue areas. Through the concept of participatory ambiguity, Girard offers a novel explanation of the agenda that advances important debates in international relations and international political economy on the distribution of power and authority in global governance.

This work presents a linguistic atlas of Zazaki, a northwestern Iranian language. It documents the linguistic geography of a region that has so far been little studied. The research is based on original fieldwork conducted with a questionnaire in 65 locations across the entire area. This questionnaire is oriented towards the predominantly rural conditions of a culture that is on the verge of disappearing. Zazaki is comprehensively documented following the model of linguistic atlases of European languages and is presented in 280 maps, which summarize 850 individual maps. The work is divided into two parts: a theoretical section with an introduction and map commentaries, and a map section. This is the first systematic foundational research on the linguistic geography of Zazaki. The study sets new standards in Iranian studies. This volume focuses on phonetic and phonology of Zazaki. Six additional volumes will follow.

This book investigates the uneasy coexistence of two current policy pathways within international development: to monetize aid and simultaneously to localize it.

It explores these paths through the experiences of the development experts who are treading them, notably those who hail from aid recipient countries, and those who engage with for-profit instruments and institutions. In focus are the institutional realms of consulting firms, development finance institutions and foreign state aid agencies involved in both for-and non-profit work. Based on over 100 interviews with development practitioners from Kenya, Tanzania and Sweden, as well as a range of other OECD-DAC countries, the book inquires into these professionals' everyday work, voice and authority, employment terms, career trajectories, moral convictions and professional drivers. It synthesizes these empirical findings with a rich collection of internal aid documentation that rarely reaches public eye. Together, these inquiries offer a multi-layered exploration of capitalism, poverty alleviation and global North-South inequalities within contemporary foreign aid. Addressing fundamental shifts within global development, this book will be an important read for researchers and students within qualitative social scientific studies of global development and international aid.

Written accessibly and to the point, the book also highlights possibilities for change which would be relevant for public and private sector development practitioners and policymakers.

At a time of multiple challenges to the liberal international order, development has become one of the most contentious areas of world politics. Dominant powers have reduced their assistance and overtly fused development with national and security interests, while rising powers like China have become major donors promoting new models and norms. Advancing an innovative Bourdieusian-inspired analysis of global politics as interaction between transnational fields, this book places development in the context of contemporary transformations in world order. It traces the history of development as a field of struggle from 1945 to the present, and argues that development is central to the emergence, maintenance, and transformation of world order. The authors show how the global field of development is characterized by a specific form of interest - an interest in disinterest - that performs the social alchemy of converting economic and military power into the symbolic power that is crucial for international hegemony. In the current geopolitical context, the ability of development to produce this symbolic power is dissolving and transforming, making the field one of the crucial sites where attempts to build an alternative global order are emerging and will be historically tested.

An open access title available under the terms of a CC BY-NC-SA 3.0 IGO licence. It is free to read at Oxford Academic and offered as a free PDF download from OUP and selected open access locations. This book explores the emergence of wartime governance and its enduring effects on post-conflict state-building, development, and institutional change. Drawing on rich empirical research and original case studies from conflict-affected countries across Africa, Latin America, and Asia, it brings together leading scholars in political science, development studies, and economics to examine how non-state and hybrid actors govern during war, and how these forms of governance interact with, challenge, or complement state authority in the long term. Rather than portraying war solely as a period of state collapse and institutional erosion, this volume reveals the emergence of complex systems of rule that provide public goods, administer justice, and collect revenues. These wartime institutions often reshape postwar political settlements, influencing patterns of state legitimacy, social cohesion, and local development trajectories. By bridging disciplinary boundaries and combining theoretical innovation with grounded fieldwork, the book sheds light on key policy debates about peacebuilding, humanitarian interventions, and institutional reform in fragile contexts. It argues for a nuanced understanding of wartime governance - not merely as a symptom of conflict but as a central force in the political and institutional evolution of societies affected by war. This volume is essential reading for scholars, policy-makers, and practitioners seeking to understand the dynamics of authority, legitimacy, and governance in the world's most challenging settings.

Terence Irwin examines Aristotle's three ethical works-the Magna Moralia, the Eudemian Ethics, and the Nicomachean Ethics. This book is the first in English to study all three texts in detail and compare them systematically. Aristotle's Ethical Works argues that we can trace a development in his thought by analysing these texts. The main elements of Aristotle's moral philosophy are shown to be common to all three works, but their exposition and defence become clearer and more convincing in his later discussions. While the Nicomachean Ethics is the clearest account of Aristotle's ethics, we can understand its position better by seeing how Aristotle arrived at it. Volume I contains the Greek text with a facing English translation. Volume II contains detailed notes on the text. Volume III contains essays on literary, historical, and philosophical questions abut the three ethical works. The essays can be understood without knowledge of Greek. Some of the notes refer to details of the Greek text, but the main exposition and discussion are accessible to readers without Greek. The Notes are keyed to lemmata in English, and Greek terms used in the Notes are all transliterated. This is the first English commentary on the Greek text of the Eudemian Ethics and Magna Moralia, as well as the first work in English to examine in detail the questions about the authorship of the Magna Moralia. The conclusion, that this is Aristotle's first work on ethics, is defended throughout the Notes and Essays. The Notes on the Nicomachean Ethics also provide the first English commentary on the Greek text for over a century. The Essays discuss questions about the three ethical works that are more suitable for continuous treatment. Some essays deal with the composition, order, and integrity of the three ethical works. Others argue for the authenticity of the Magna Moralia. Others discuss philosophical questions that arise in all three works.

This book explores the influence of policies and politics on food security governance at a local government level. It unravels new, and as yet, unknown, dimensions on how policy and decision-making incoherences, fragmentations, and disintegrations emerge with different stakeholders working in silos.

The book focuses on food security governance as it is grounded in different theories (Sabatier, the entrepreneurship theory, the incremental theory, the stakeholder theory, and the network governance theory) to study policy coherence and integrated stakeholder collaboration and connections to improve food security through small-scale farming at local level. The existing theories are tested, and new constructs are emerging to shape the international communities' thinking on food security and good governance. This book targets the Eastern Cape Province in South Africa, wherein the government has invested a lot of funding for small-scale farming with the aim to increase food security, create job opportunities, and curb poverty amongst rural communities.

This cutting-edge and innovative book will appeal to students, researchers, and professionals in the fields of agricultural economics, food studies, public administration and management, economics, sociology, and human geography and will also be valuable to members of the local and international community.

Sensing Worship delves into the sensory experience of worship in white, mainline Protestant churches, exploring the often intangible "energy" that shapes how worship feels. Drawing on affect theory, emotion studies, and practical theology, the book uncovers the embodied, social, and non-representational dimensions of worship that influence individuals' engagement with liturgy. Through storytelling and analysis, the author investigates how these elements circulate among worshippers, offering new insights into how the atmosphere of worship can be both shaped and harnessed. Sensing Worship presents a fresh perspective on the connections between feeling, practice, and theology in contemporary worship.

This monograph revises the first edition of this book (2004) which is long overdue. Many segments needed revision due in large part to the veritable flood of studies published in the wake of the first edition. In other cases, the author changed his mind in his continued study of the scrolls improved by the new images of the Leon Levy Dead Sea Scrolls Digital Library. Hyperlinks to this library are now added to most references to the scrolls. This book covers many aspects of a handbook for those who study the scrolls, material culture, and edit scroll fragments.

This collection is one of the most comprehensive elaborations of "the pneumatological imagination"-a disposition to God and the world shaped by the doctrine of the Holy Spirit. Scholars in theology, biblical studies, history, and theological education interact with, build on, and critically evaluate this highly important hermeneutical principle in conversation with the theology of Amos Yong and in its own right. The contributors represent several different cultural and ethnic contexts, Church traditions, and kinds of institutions of higher education. They will guide you from beginning understandings of the pneumatological imagination to sophisticated deployments of it through a concert in honor of their colleague and friend.

This interdisciplinary Festschrift for Jan Willem van Henten contains nineteen essays that deal with literature from antiquity to the present, covering Second Temple Judaism, Early Christianity, Hellenism as well as the reception of the Bible in medieval and modern culture. The contributions to this volume address the rich imagery present in tales and texts that feature tyrants, heroes, prophets, and/or martyrs (male, female, or other), including the, often violent, interaction between them. Tyrants have enormous political power. Heroes are characterized by immense courage. Prophets stand out because of their remarkable insight into hidden things. Martyrs have an extraordinary capacity for self-sacrifice and their lives often culminate in violent endings. In discussing, investigating, and questioning these types, this book contributes to a better understanding of premodern texts, their modern cultural impact, and intellectual history.
