In doing so, he continues an esteemed tradition of works considering the theology and philosophy of death, including Karl Rahner's On the Theology of Death and Martin Heidegger's Being and Time. However, Trew is also breaking new ground: this is the first English language book to compare the late Christos Yannaras with major western theologians, making this an innovative and ecumenical work.

Different as they are, both Bonhoeffer and Yannaras are well-known for their robustly relational views of human existence. Beginning by re-considering what we know about jokes and laughter, the authors propose that more attention needs to be paid to the quasi-sacramental, magical quality of jokes and the ways laughter can shift the affective states of an audience. They then turn their attention to key issues and debates within stand-up comedy. First, is the comical legitimacy or illegitimacy of comedians who employ humor ambiguously so that we are not sure at who or what they are "punching". Second, is the phenomenon of canceling comedians for their behavior off stage. Third, is the sociopolitical possibilities of stand-up. Ultimately, the authors argue that there is theological, religious, and ethical significance to contemporary stand-up comedy.

Over the past 20 years, 33,000 North Korean refugees have escaped to South Korea, though their plight in South Korea is largely unknown to the Western World. These North Korean refugees who have made it to freedom are struggling.

Within South Korea, North Koreans find themselves in a land of plenty but can't seem to move on. For many, they are not in danger for the first time in decades but cannot turn off the traumatic memories from their lives in North Korea and the peril they faced during their escape. After fleeing North Korea, refugees travel the 6,000 mile modern day underground railroad in China and other Asian countries.

Gathered from the author's work with the NGO, Crossing Borders, this book shares the real life stories of North Koreans trapped under the weight of lingering trauma, depression, and discrimination in South Korea. These stories help us to imagine what the future might hold for North Korea and North Korean refugees in a changing world.

This book explores the culturally significant objects of various Indigenous peoples in Siberia by considering the power, agency, use and evolving meanings of these objects over time. It acknowledges that top-down conceptualizations of heritage, in Russia as anywhere, are only one element of a complex story that is negotiated by multiple actors. The book further explores the shifting politics and spirituality of material objects and their role in the construction of heritage across this vast multi-ethnic region from Indigenous perspectives.

The regional case studies consider human-non-human interactions involving objects, which are more-than-things, such as ritual rugs, Buddhist relics, shamanic figurines and wooden carvings in contemporary Indigenous communities as well as in museum contexts. The overarching dominance of the Soviet state and now modern Russia, which had - and continues to have - conflicted bureaucratic views towards Indigeneity and heritage management, provides a crucial backdrop for the assessment of the resilience of Siberian Indigenous peoples.

Through the lens of critical heritage studies and decolonial methodologies, this book sheds new light on numerous cultural, political, social and economic processes that are currently unfolding in Siberia and in the wider Indigenous world beyond. Kater explores how the Anglican Way became rooted in widely different contexts and identifies the many pressures and movements that challenged that history-including two world wars, a global Depression, anti-colonialism and the struggles against the many forms of oppression and discrimination that marked the century. This book is the story of how Anglican ministry has been broadened and deepened by its constantly growing diversity even as that diversity has brought new challenges.

Extraordinarily full records of this proto-multinational firm's management correspondence and verbatim records of Canadian government inquiries mean that a full account of the challenges the company faced is possible. Against a background of global depression and world war, a small and often divided management team struggled to cope with volatile customer preferences, changing tariffs, an uncommonly concentrated retail sector, rapid automation, the move from natural to artificial silk and an intrusive state before finally succumbing to post-1945 global liberalism. Many of the problems encountered by Grout & Co prefigure those faced today by the managers of SMEs dealing with the consequences of Brexit and President Trump.

This monograph examines Choson Dynasty's Zun Zhou Si Ming (Revering the Zhou and Longing for the Ming) during the period of 1637-1800, after Choson entered tributary relations with the Qing. This book examines which factors promote or hinder older people's access to social care in different Asian development contexts. It introduces a new theoretical framework which is applied to high-income (Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea) and middle-income (People's Republic of China, Indonesia and Thailand) Asian countries and administrative zones.

It takes the reader on a journey from middle-income countries like Indonesia, where access relies heavily on informal care from relatives and the neighbourhood, to high-income countries like South Korea or Singapore. In the latter, older people have access to a wider range of services yet may fail to gain access because of care worker shortages, institutional barriers (e.g. eligibility criteria), or the commercialisation of care.

Seven empirical chapters each identify distinct factors promoting or impeding access and discuss what this means for meeting care needs in practice. In the conclusion, these findings identify how situations differ depending on whether a country is "developed" or "developing," and discuss potential Asia-specific characteristics to accessing social care. Additionally, the strengths and limitations of the new theoretical framework are discussed with reference to existing theories of "access to care", welfare state development and care regimes. Overall, this book provides a comprehensive and systematic comparison of older people's access to social care in selected East and Southeast Asian countries and zones.
