In this compelling work, Baylor draws on the works of John Owen to address critiques of a Reformed theology of God's power and right. Modern outlooks on the world often encourage individuals to think of themselves as free and self-possessed sovereigns, rather than as subjects responsible to some higher authority. Christian responses to this have rightly sought to re-assert the creature's dependence upon God, often focusing criticism on modernity's possessive moral logic, and its disenchanted view of the world. However, Protestant theology is frequently caught in the crossfire, because many argue that the disenchantment of the modern world is driven by a Protestant vision of God's rule as absolute and arbitrary.

This rigorous study shows that Reformed theology has the resources to answer these criticisms and offer a compelling account of God's rule. Baylor turns to Owen's theology of divine "dominion", an attribute that sought to integrate reflection on God's power and justice. By tracing Owen's richly textured vision of the creature's relation to God, Baylor shows that Reformed theology sought to condition our notions of God's power by the forms of the creature's dependence upon God within God's moral economy. In doing so, this book offers a nuanced account of God's relation to creatures, and a powerful rebuttal to contemporary critics that depict Reformed visions of God's power as arbitrary and tyrannical.

Drawing upon 12 months of ethnographic fieldwork in an evangelical youth group in London, this book investigates the practices used in church contexts to bring about evangelical transformation, how these are experienced and interpreted by young people, and what this process can tell us about evangelicalism more widely.

Rob Barward-Symmons argues for the significance of the adolescent experience within evangelicalism, and explores how adult experience and subjectivity forms in these overlooked spaces. Through the lens of ritual and rites of passage theory, the book argues that the youth group period can be understood as one of sustained liminality for group members, enabled through spatial and structural separation between the youth and adult evangelical contexts.

This book increases the awareness of interpreting accuracy through the manner of speech, linguistic equity, and procedural justice through a court interpreter, promotes effective multilingual legal communication through interprofessional understanding and researcher-practitioner collaboration, and proposes future pedagogies on the interpreting accuracy of the manner of speech in court interpreter training.

Despite its stable presence within movie theatres in recent decades, its history is complex, and it took several decades for it to develop into the model we recognise today. This book focuses on the contentious period between 1905 and 1955, and explores key developments within the concession stand and film exhibition, but also America more generally, in an attempt to understand how and why the concession stand grew as it did.

This book examines ecological practice through an approach that challenges dominant anthropocentric and ecocentric perspectives in environmental political theory. The work argues that different mainstream approaches tend to objectify the ecological by treating it as a uniform set of behaviors or techniques detached from its social contexts, based on dualistic assumptions. Drawing on an ethnographic case study of the Chilean island of Chiloe, the book explores the ecological as an embedded practice in which attachment, body and sociability play a critical role. The theoretical framework combines insights from authors such as Elinor Ostrom, Pedro Morande, Robert Spaemann, Bruno Latour, strands of feminist theory and phenomenology, and especially Alasdair MacIntyre's reflections on vulnerability and dependence. The central thesis is that ecological practice is sustained by a community ethos of acknowledged dependence, in which vulnerability and need provide reasons to care and overcome instrumental rationality. By articulating the concepts of care, flourishing, limits and belonging, the book outlines a view of communities of everyday ecological practice that recovers the experience of the living as crucial for ecological politics at the local scale and beyond.
