Effective climate transition requires accelerated financing from public and private sources, and improved coordination between states and markets. Through Institutions for Climate Finance, the authors offer a forensic interrogation of structures capable of supporting effective response to the era-defining climate challenge. Combining high intellectual ambition and systematic engagement with scholarship across a range of social science traditions, they deliver insights that are analytically precise and which carry far-reaching implications. The book demonstrates how political institutions including government composition and electoral out-turns impact domestic climate spending, how national cultural values provide social institutional foundations for climate aid, and how economic institutional mechanisms including Central Bank asset purchases and underwriters' operations influence the performance of green bond markets. Clegg and Galindo-Gutierrez cover technical nuance in an accessible format, introducing readers to the detail of government spending decisions and financial market dynamics that will determine the scale of climate financing released to support more sustainable ways of living and working. Overall, the book makes the case for an 'evidence-based optimism' on climate financing; by showing what works and identifying areas for improvement, advocacy and accountability efforts can be refined. Through highlighting the indeterminacy of current dynamics, Institutions for Climate Finance reminds us that the future of climate financing is yet to be written, leaving considerable space for our individual and collective agency to leave its mark.

Authoritarian Markets explores the political foundations of China's banking boom and its far-reaching impact on the Chinese economy.

In 1978 China had no commercial banks. Today it commands the world's largest banking system, with assets equal to 40 percent of global GDP. Adam Y. Liu argues that this rise was not the product of market reforms but of political bargains and bureaucratic mobilization.

In the 1990s, Beijing issued bank licenses as bargaining chips - securing cooperation from local governments as it pushed through painful reforms. The result was a sprawling, competitive banking market built not in spite of authoritarian rule but because of it.

Drawing on interviews, spatial data, census records, surveys, and experiments, Liu reveals how local state banks became both engines of China's growth and incubators of its current economic risks. Eye-opening and persuasive, Authoritarian Markets offers fresh insight into the political logic of market development in China and authoritarian states worldwide.

Herzen's Letters offers readers a biographical narrative based on translated and annotated correspondence written by and to Alexander Herzen (1812-1870), one of the most consequential figures in the run-up to the Russian Revolution and an inspiration to dissidents fighting authoritarianism and imperialism ever since. Kathleen Parthe has selected the most significant epistolary material from over a dozen volumes, interweaving letters with commentary to provide context on the time of composition. Parthe also provides excerpts from key Herzen writings mentioned in his letters that are not widely available in translation.

While some letters are presented whole, in most cases Parthe selected excerpts that illuminate Herzen's ideas, opinions, and plans, as well as his stylistic gifts. Herzen enjoyed spirited debate, and Herzen's Letters includes the voices of his famous contemporaries, including Mikhail Bakunin, Ivan Turgenev, Lev Tolstoy, and others. In brief introductory essays to the six sections Parthe sketches life events, publications, and settings, as Herzen moved from Moscow to the Urals, Petersburg, Novgorod, the European continent, and England, before returning to the continent for his final years.

A practical, start-to-finish guide to securing an internship in the private sector and making the most of the transition from student to professional.

Every year, college students across the country seek internships to build experience in their chosen fields. In this highly competitive job market, students and recent graduates need to seek out every possible opportunity to differentiate themselves and demonstrate that they are ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work. One important way to do so is an internship in the private sector, which can lead to a full-time job with a well-regarded organization. Yet the process of finding an internship can appear challenging. This book can make it easier.

For more than a decade, finance professional Charles Fishkin has been preparing students to thrive in internship programs. In this book, he shares his advice for those who are seeking a private-sector internship. With insights relevant to a variety of fields-from finance to the tech sector-he covers the process from start to finish, beginning with exploring the range of internship opportunities available. Several chapters offer advice on best practices for crafting effective resumes, networking, and interviewing to get the position. Fishkin offers checklists, action items, real-life scenarios, and practical suggestions, each arising from the experiences of former interns and hiring managers. The heart of the book focuses on the nine to twelve weeks of the internship itself, with tips on how to interact with supervisors and colleagues, how to learn and apply new skills, and how to solve problems and address challenges that arise.

Internships in the Private Sector is the first full-length guide to securing and making the most of an internship. This book will help level the playing field, providing students with the tools and support they need to perform to the fullest extent of their abilities and lay the foundation for a strong start to their careers.

A gripping investigation into the Covid-19 pandemic's lasting effects on our bodies, systems, and trust in science.

The Covid-19 pandemic may have faded from headlines, but its shadow remains. In After Covid, award-winning journalist Jason Gale delivers a gripping, deeply researched account of a crisis that has fundamentally changed the world, and continues to reshape it in ways we're only beginning to understand.

In this riveting account of the pandemic and its devastating ripple effects, Gale captures the pandemic's messy realities-the panic it spurred, the misinformation and political infighting that stood in the way of controlling it, and the heroic efforts by scientists and health care workers to contain it. Gale exposes what went wrong, what worked, and what continues to threaten us. From the pandemic's chaotic beginnings to the hidden toll of Long Covid, he examines how governments shaped-and sometimes warped-the public narrative around the pandemic. He documents the consequences still unfolding: the rise of chronic illness, the erosion of health care systems, the deepening mental health crisis, and the dangerous spread of anti-science extremism.

This book is a powerful, evidence-based reminder that pandemics don't end when case numbers fall. They linger in damaged bodies, strained institutions, and collective memory. Gale connects the dots between lingering symptoms and systemic failure, offering a sweeping view of what's at stake if we choose to forget. After Covid urges readers to confront the true scope of the pandemic's legacy-and the vulnerabilities it has revealed in our systems, societies, and selves.

The story of a bold political experiment in nineteenth-century France to establish power through finance.

Amid the rise of industrial capitalism and revolutionary upheaval, French reformers asserted that finance should be reimagined as an instrument of economic and social transformation rather than left to the logic of private profit and speculation. In the 1850s, under Napoleon III's authoritarian regime, this vision took institutional form as the Bonapartist state strategically deployed finance, broadened market participation, and sponsored new banks with the promise of directing investment toward infrastructure and industry. Yet this effort to harness and mobilize capital ran into a problem: The financial markets refused to be tamed.

Drawing on rich archival sources-from police surveillance and courtroom transcripts to investment manuals and petitions for incorporation-Capital Untamed reveals how the financial markets became an instrument of political power, frustrated state ambitions, and ultimately escaped attempts at mastery. In this striking debut, historian Charlotte Robertson shows how the French state and its citizens navigated a turbulent era of European capitalism animated by debates over the social purpose of financial capital. Ultimately, politicians' efforts to establish legitimacy by reorganizing finance-and their confrontations with the limits of that project-set the stage for a form of modern discontent with the financial system that survives to this day.

This book presents a comprehensive examination of employee share ownership, profit sharing, and gain sharing practices in contemporary business environments. Drawing from rigorous academic research presented at the prestigious Oxford University-Rutgers University Conference on Shares, it offers valuable insights into how these ownership structures function across different organizational contexts. The collection analyzes both the contextual factors that influence share plans and their measurable impacts on companies and individuals.

The volume is organized into two main sections. The first explores the financial, corporate cultural, and social contexts that shape employee ownership programs, including groundbreaking research on earnings management in French companies, workplace spillover theory, financial structures in Spanish worker cooperatives, and critical success factors for fostering ownership culture. The second section provides evidence-based analysis of outcomes and impacts, examining whether these organizational forms deliver concrete benefits for firms and workers.

Through careful examination of international case studies and empirical data, the book demonstrates that while employee ownership and profit sharing conceptually align individual rewards with organizational performance, their success depends on appropriate human resource management practices and supportive corporate cultures. The research highlights how these models can address wage stagnation by allowing workers to access returns on capital.

This book is essential reading for students, researchers and scholars in management studies, organizational behavior, and labor economics, as well as corporate executives, HR professionals, and policymakers interested in alternative ownership structures.

The chapters in this book were originally published in International Review of Applied Economics.

Analyzing long-cycle patterns during the twentieth century, this book presents novel findings on how core features of financialization are interconnected across advanced economies.

It proposes that, since the late nineteenth century, international macroeconomic policy regimes have favored either capital or labor, giving rise to corresponding cycles of financialization and de-financialization: a liberal phase of financialization (1896-1929), a regulated phase of de-financialization (1946-1973), and a neoliberal phase of financialization (1983-2019). The book argues that these cycles can be explained through underconsumption theory in 13 advanced economies. During financialization, the study suggests inequality created a savings glut that stimulated liquidity for credit expansion, which in turn led to financial instability. Meanwhile, the lack of aggregate demand due to inequality depressed economic growth. By contrast, during the de-financialization of the regulated Bretton Woods era, credit formation did not lead to financial crises, and economic growth was high. Nevertheless, both the liberal and regulated phases succumbed to structural crises caused by internal frictions. These crises transformed not only the economy, but also the political landscape - and at times, even democracy itself. The question remains whether the neoliberal regime is also undergoing an existential crisis, and what lessons we can learn from history to avoid the pitfalls ahead.

The book is primarily aimed at scholars and students of global political economy.

This volume explores the practices of shopping in Europe during the long eighteenth century, a period during which consumption choices expanded to encompass much larger groups than before. Shopping functioned as an act of social distinction, where retail practices not only reflected and reinforced social aspirations and identities but also were a means of creating relationships through shared information and exchanges.

Bringing together ten diverse case studies, the collection provides in-depth insights into the transformation of shopping practices across Western and Northern Europe. The production of made-to-order goods gave way to a range of ready-made objects that could be viewed, browsed and touched in shops, booths, workshops and markets. Together, the chapters highlight a crucial historical nuance: the concept of 'shopping' as understood in England-with its associations of pleasure and socialising-did not exist in other major European languages during this period. From actors in Stockholm to aristocrats in Paris, this study rigorously contextualises the practice of consumption, leaving readers with an enriched understanding of how shopping shaped identities and social relationships throughout eighteenth-century Europe.

This collection is an essential resource for scholars, students and non-specialists interested in the material culture, economy, everyday life and social dynamics of Europe during the long eighteenth century.

Teaching Statistics and Quantitative Methods in the 21st Century is a guide for rethinking and revitalizing statistics and quantitative methods pedagogy for both novice and experienced instructors at undergraduate and graduate levels. It offers modern, transformative approaches to prepare students as future researchers.

Now in its second edition, this ground-breaking volume tackles the question of how introductory statistics and quantitative methods should be taught, drawing on contributions from highly accomplished teachers. Many current textbooks and syllabi remain little changed from those used half a century ago, despite major developments in the field and its role in research. The book rests on a core principle: Introductory teaching should open the pathway to advanced training and equip students to become accomplished researchers.

New chapters address:

  • The role of Artificial Intelligence in teaching statistics
  • Classroom software applications and applets
  • Automated homework generation and grading
  • Teaching the replication crisis
  • New treatments of p-values, null hypothesis significance testing (NHST) and abduction
  • A pedagogical approach based on statistical modeling rather than hypothesis testing

Updated and expanded chapters from the first edition are included alongside these new contributions, presenting both classroom innovations and philosophical challenges to the status quo. The result is a call for a broad reimagining of how statistics and quantitative methods are introduced, designed to engage students, support new instructors, and renew the practice of seasoned teachers.

This innovative volume focuses on social fiction as both a methodological tool and a research product. Drawing on original stories and social theories, this diverse group of authors offers their perspectives to provide a practical guide for developing skills in utilizing social fiction throughout the research process, from study design to the delivery of research outcomes.

While many authors share original works of social fiction in their chapters, others focus on the value of stories, particularly when stories are sacred and cannot be shared in full. Across these approaches, the book broadens the definition of social fiction and demonstrates its power to reimagine research and knowledge-making. This approach fosters a holistic understanding of the relationship between social fiction and research, encouraging researchers to draw on insights from various disciplines.

This interdisciplinary book is for novice and seasoned researchers alike who can recognize the potential of social fiction, as well as scholars and students in the social sciences, the humanities, Indigenous studies, and education who use qualitative research in their work. By engaging with this text, readers can develop critical skills in crafting narratives, integrating social theories, and applying fiction as a methodological tool.

Storytelling Research Methods establishes the methods, subject matter, tonal qualities, and philosophical underpinnings of Storytelling Research, while distinguishing it from its close relatives in Narrative Research, Narrative Inquiry, Performance Research, Autoethnography, and Qualitative Methods. The book includes philosophical discussion of Storytelling Research alongside practical advice on how to conduct storytelling research and international case studies from storytellers, scholars, and thinkers from Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America examining how storytelling methods have been used in practice.

The distinctive emphasis in Storytelling Research is on the telling of stories-that is, on the vibrant moments in which stories are summoned into the psycho-cultural space between individuals and groups. The creation, documentation, and analysis of such moments are tasks of activism as well as pure research-their intention is to bring the world to a renewed condition, while advancing our understanding of such artful interactions. The book traces the interdisciplinary genealogies of storytelling research in Folklore, Performance Studies, Theatre, Communication Studies, Literature, Socio-linguistics, Sociology, History, and other contemporary lenses, while making the case for storytelling as its own uniquely rooted formation. It establishes holistic connections between storytelling as performing art and storytelling as a tool for generating data and social change.

The book will be useful as a textbook for advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in Storytelling, as well as those who wish to expand their understanding of qualitative methods across the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

This book defends a purist neo-Aristotelian approach to hylomorphism, addressing long-standing debates about the reality of material objects and engaging with contemporary philosophical discussions.

It begins with a critical examination of the contemporary "impurist" approach to hylomorphism and then develops a purist conception of form, which is grounded in Aristotle's original framework and contextualized within current theoretical debates. By engaging with both ancient philosophy and contemporary metaphysics, the book demonstrates how the purist approach provides an insightful way to tackle tough philosophical issues.

This book will appeal to scholars and advanced students of ancient Greek philosophy and metaphysics.

This is the first volume in over a century devoted to the second-century bce Peripatetic philosopher Critolaus of Phaselis, covering his views on cosmology, god, ethics, rhetoric, and politics.

Critolaus of Phaselis was the most prominent Aristotelian philosopher of the second century bce; he was at the center of debates in ethics and rhetoric, and there is evidence that he also developed views on the nature of the soul, god, and the cosmos, as well as on politics and history. Nothing that he wrote survives in full, but aspects of his doctrine are known from references in later literature. This volume explores every aspect of his work, reconstructing Critolaus' philosophical convictions and analyzing his position in the context of Hellenistic philosophy, especially in relation to Stoic philosophy.

Critolaus of Phaselis offers fascinating insights into an understudied figure. The book is suitable for students and scholars of Aristotelian and Peripatetic philosophy, as well as Hellenistic philosophy more broadly.

Spanning over a century of global health crises, Case Studies on Pandemic and Epidemic Communication Campaigns examines 25 case studies across 12 major pandemics and epidemics that shaped public health communication and all types of organizations in both the public and private sectors.

Each chapter begins with the historical context when the health crisis occurred to help readers understand the overall magnitude of the health crisis, treatments, media, and available communication tools. Each case study contains a complete overview and details (situation analysis, objectives, strategies, tactics, implementation, results, and measurement), about a specific communication campaign to address the health crisis, as well as theoretical principles and insightful questions to hone critical thinking skills. The book also addresses ethics, social inequities, xenophobia, discrimination, fearmongering, misinformation, and vaccine hesitancy. The case study method is a crucial pedagogical tool for educators and practitioners to make sense of past and present health crises and learn about the similarities and parallels between communication methods and theoretical principles applied across epidemics and pandemics.

The book will appeal to students and academics in public health and crisis communication programs as well as academic associations in communication and crisis management, public relations practitioners, and members of the leading communication industry groups.

A decade after the "Arab springs", the book aims to provide a concise perspective on the political, social and economic challenges of the southern shore of the Mediterranean a decade after the "Arab springs". The volume, both from a sociolegal and economic perspective, aims to offer readers an analytical and up-todate
picture of the transformations in several particularly significant countries in the area under consideration. The volume thus covers the entire north African and near Eastern coastal belt, from Morocco to Lebanon, and extends its focus into the Gulf. In particular, keeping in the background the Agenda 2020-2030, the book explores, on the one side, the role of the religious factor in the transformation of the constitutional orders and, on the other, the perspectives of economies of MENA region in the decade that followed the "Arab springs". In a different way, the Arab springs were characterized, from a constitutional point of view, by the attempt at a different relationship between political power and religion. This new arrangement, particularly evident in the Tunisian Constitution, but not absent in other contemporary experiences, was associated with favorable and expanding economic prospects. The book questions the relevance of this reading and how economic and political factors affected subsequent transformations. The situation of each country is individual in that it differs depending on many factors, starting with historical and geographical factors that have profoundly influenced social, political and economic structures. What is to be expected for the MENA region in the light of Agenda 2020-2030? Which are the major opportunities for growth and reform and which are the main risks? By adopting a multidisciplinary approach this book will offer a comprehensive picture of the main political and economic challenges for MENA region.

Set in the postcolonial city of Kinshasa (DR Congo), this ethnography explores how people with disabilities navigate debates about the just distribution of resources where there is little state organised welfare, and public perception of disability swings between the 'deserving' and 'undeserving'. Tracing a historic increase of disability due to polio and its long-term effects, this book examines two controversial livelihood activities that serve as informal alternatives to state support: a specialized form of international border brokerage across the Congo River, and a unique practice of bureaucratized begging that imitates state tax collection and humanitarian fundraising. Clara Devlieger examines how such activities shape ways that disabled people conceive the idea of becoming 'valuable people' in local terms: by supporting loved ones, many achieve high esteem against expectations, while adapting exclusionary models of urban personhood to include disability. Devlieger offers a new understanding of the complex dynamic between the imagined role of the state, international discourses of rights, and local experiences of disability.

A compelling call to reimagine public health by addressing human behavior and systemic barriers to prevent pandemics.

We are doomed to live through pandemics as long as we rely on biomedical advances to save us. In Humanizing Public Health, Perry N. Halkitis explores how human behavior, societal structures, and flawed public health approaches fuel the spread of infectious diseases. With extensive experience as an epidemiologist and public health psychologist, Halkitis critiques the biomedical paradigm that dominates pandemic responses, advocating instead for a holistic, person-centered model.

A purely biological perspective on these viruses, which dominates so much of the conversation around pandemics, falls short in protecting the health of populations. Instead, Halkitis illuminates how psychological, social, and structural factors-such as misinformation, systemic inequities, and cultural beliefs-create ideal conditions for pathogens to thrive and for pandemics to spread. A more holistic approach to public health and health care delivery can help advance our efforts in fighting diseases which, in turn, should also help advance health equity. Halkitis explores key lessons from the HIV and COVID-19 pandemics while offering actionable insights to reimagine public health education, preparedness, and equity.

This book challenges readers to confront the human behaviors and systemic barriers perpetuating pandemics and presents a transformative vision for preventing future crises. With clarity and compassion, Halkitis empowers public health professionals, policymakers, and the public to rethink the way we approach health crises by emphasizing the importance of empathy, community engagement, trust-building, and political acumen as cornerstones of effective prevention and care.

Qualitative Research in Practice is a hands-on guide to three of the most essential qualitative research tools-shadowing, focus groups and qualitative interviews.

Offering a clear and practical framework, this book equips researchers with the methodological understanding needed to design, conduct and analyse qualitative research effectively. The book begins with a chapter discussing the qualitative research approach from an epistemological point of view and focusing on the relationship between subjectivities within the cognitive process. The following chapters illustrate three research tools (shadowing, qualitative interviews and focus groups) in which this relationship is realised. Each chapter analyses the origins of the tool, its characteristics and how it is applied. To facilitate learning, practical examples are provided through the research experiences of the author of the book. Readers will gain a deeper understanding of how to navigate the emotional and interpretative dimensions of field research, ensuring their studies are both methodologically sound and ethically grounded.

Designed for social scientists, researchers and students, this book is an essential resource for those looking to refine their qualitative research skills. Whether you are conducting fieldwork for the first time or seeking to enhance your methodological toolkit, this book provides actionable strategies to improve your research practice.

Globalization has deeply transformed the world economy: rule of law gained ground, especially in Eastern Europe and Latin America, poverty fell significantly, particularly in Asia, and capitalism triumphed, sometimes with massive state intervention. In the meantime, financial interdependence grew dramatically. The core argument of this book is that the high degree of financial interdependence forged during the "golden age" of globalization from 1991-2016 is now the main impediment to the reduction of the elevated public debts observed in many countries. Therefore, it investigates how the world economy may be deleveraged and how interdependence may be reduced or, wherever possible, made compatible with a deleveraging process.

Readers of this book will gain a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted challenges stemming from high public debt burdens. Drawing on insights from economics, law, and political science, it argues that public debts may be reaching unsustainable levels in advanced as well as developing and emerging countries. This evolution is exacerbated by various forms of interdependence in which governments have been entangled since the globalization years. The book offers an overview of key issues, such as the interconnectedness between governments and "too-big-to-fail" financial institutions; the way financial crises lead to massive bailouts and significant increases in public debts; the debt sustainability problems posed by higher interest rates, geopolitical tensions, and climate change and the lack of coordination between the IMF and the Paris Club, on the one hand, and China, on the other hand, during the debt restructuring processes of developing countries.

Owing to its multidisciplinary approach, the book will attract the interest of scholars and students from wide ranging fields, including political scientists, economists, and lawyers.

Governance and the Hegemony of Financial Stability: From Financial Crisis to Climate Emergency explains how the handling of the global financial crisis has redefined the relations of politics and financial markets and how the then established hegemony of financial stability still dominates responses to current challenges, particularly climate change.

The book argues that within the years of crisis management a hegemony of financial governance evolved that accepts the financial system as being intrinsically crisis-laden and potentially disastrous for broader notions of welfare and social security. The book traces how this framework redefined state-market relations, expanded technocratic authority, and extended into new domains, including climate policy, where climate risks are reframed as threats to financial stability. By analysing the work of a transnational epistemic community of central bankers, regulators, and financial stability experts, it analyses how post-crisis governance operates through risk management, surveillance, and resilience-building. It captures how political and financial rationalities co-evolved towards a hegemony that seeks to contain crises without addressing their root causes and thus prevents more transformative changes

The book will appeal to scholars of political science, economic sociology, international relations, international political economy, as well as security, finance, and economics.

In Therapeutic Natures, Johanna Conterio analyzes the development of the institution of the Soviet sanatorium as a project of building socialism, a "Magnitstroi of health." The sanatorium not only served as a curative space in nature to counterbalance the intense and often hazardous environmental conditions of Soviet labor, but also monumentalized the achievements and the anxieties of Soviet socialism.

Conterio reveals how health resort towns, and the individual sanatoria within them, served a central role in a distinct socialist model of public health and welfare that emerged in the late nineteenth century, developed in the Soviet Union in response to domestic, transnational, and international events-the Second International, the October Revolution, Stalinism, World War II, and the Cold War. This model foregrounded the study of climate, geography and landscape in medical research and understandings of the human body as ecologically embedded in the physical environment, producing environmental knowledge that informed medical practice and the design of the built and natural environments of what became therapeutic landscapes. Ultimately, a distinct form of environmental governance developed in Soviet health resorts, linked to the authority of medical officials within the planned economy, and offering historians a counterpart to the model of ecocide. Therapeutic Natures outlines an experimental attempt to create healthy environments for optimal human development, rooted in socialist conceptual approaches to human life in the environment

This volume explores the contested heritage of landscapes impacted by energy production. It offers a comparative perspective across Europe on different energy resources and reveals the hidden histories behind current efforts to revalorise the industrial heritage of energy production.

Including case studies from across the European continent, this volume adds a crucial historical perspective to current debates on energy transition and the future of Europe's landscapes, which have been deeply impacted by energy production. Coal mining, oil drilling, peat extraction, and the construction of large-scale infrastructure, such as dams, have shaped 'cultural landscapes of energy' in present-day Europe. The exploitation of natural resources served economic development and established new industrial work cultures, but it also destroyed settlements through excavation and flooding. This volume brings together conflicting histories around work, habitation, and leisure in contemporary landscapes across Europe. Drawing on archival records, interviews, and fieldwork, the chapters in this volume combine perspectives on the productive and destructive sides of energy. They address the tensions emerging from heritage-making processes, which focus on the end of energy production despite ongoing and future commissioning projects.

This volume contributes new insights to the fields of energy and environmental history, heritage studies, memory studies, landscape architecture, and sustainability science. It provides rich materials on energy landscapes across Europe for researchers as well as policymakers and practitioners interested in energy transition, (post-)industrial heritage, and cultural tourism.

This book presents a series of case studies that highlight culturally embedded circular economy practices of reuse, repair, and regeneration in India.

Far from innovations, these traditions reflect ways of living that have long sustained communities within ecological limits. From terracotta clusters in Rajasthan to bamboo-timber houses in Sikkim, palm-leaf artefacts in Kerala, and community commons in Chhattisgarh, they demonstrate that circularity is not an abstract policy goal but a lived inheritance. Against this backdrop, Purva Tavri explores how practices from the margins can offer valuable lessons for the affluent world, wherever it may be located. Drawing on her lived experiences in India and professional work in the UK, Tavri maps the social, cultural, economic, and ecological impacts of these traditions against the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, framing them as reverse learning with replicability and scalability for advancing circularity and resilience. At the same time, she raises a caution: as the affluent increasingly appropriate practices from the margins, policies and systems must protect these communities from displacement, or loss of ownership over their traditions.

India's Circular Economy in Action will be of great interest to citizens, students, scholars, and professionals whose research and work relates to the circular economy, resource consumption, sustainable development, and waste management.
