教育学と言語学の脱植民地化ハンドブック
Bagga-Gupta, Sangeeta (ed.),
The Palgrave Handbook of Decolonising the Educational and Language Sciences. 814 pp. 2025:7 (Palgrave Macmillan, UK) <749-1560>
ISBN 978-3-031-80321-5 hard ¥11,766.- (税込) EUR 49.99
This open access handbook contributes to decolonising the scholarship that lies at the intersections of the educational and language sciences. Contributors from across the planet interrogate issues related to mainstream western/northern hegemonies of knowledge production and institutional hierarchies and practices which continue to dominate the research landscape. Engaging with alternative, marginalised and/or Southern thinking, the scholarship presented here goes beyond calls for multidisciplinarity, and instead offers multiversal, 'undisciplinary' ways and waves of doing research 'otherwise'. The handbook will appeal to scholars and students working in and beyond the broad areas of education and language who are interested in discussions about Southern and decolonial perspectives, positionality and the politics of knowledge production.

Geluykens, Ronald,
Changing the Topic: An Interactional Linguistics Analysis of Topic Flow in English Conversation. (Corpus Linguistics and Pragmatics) 296 pp. 2025:7 (Springer, GW) <749-1562>
ISBN 978-3-031-86911-2 hard ¥30,598.- (税込) EUR 129.99
This book presents an in-depth analysis of how discourse topics are introduced, maintained, and closed in British English conversation. It highlights the crucial role of real-time negotiation and turn-taking in ensuring cohesive topic flow. Using an inductive, bottom-up approach, the book explores topicality through an operational definition grounded in the traditional Discourse Analysis (DA) concept of given versus new information. This operational framework is used to identify potential topic shifts and is complemented by a detailed micro-analysis of interactional sequences. Inspired by Conversation Analysis (CA), it investigates how topics are negotiated, trouble spots are resolved, and cohesion is collaboratively achieved. The combination of DA and CA methodology, combined with its attention to the linguistic resources employed by participants, explores an exciting new area of Interactional Linguistics. The book offers future avenues for potential contrastive studies on topic flow which take into account regional, social, typological, stylistic, and diachronic variation. It is of interest to researchers working in the fields of information flow, conversational interaction, and functional linguistics in general. Its theoretical apparatus contributes to a clearer understanding of the elusive notion of topicality.

Bosseaux, Charlotte,
A Voice of Their Own: Encouraging Caring and Ethical Practices in Trauma Screen Translation. 144 pp. 2025:5 (Palgrave Macmillan, UK) <749-1134>
ISBN 978-3-031-90431-8 hard ¥11,766.- (税込) EUR 49.99
This open access book explores which audiovisual translation methods or techniques are the most ethical when translating personal narratives dealing with trauma and emotions, and provides good practice guidelines for different stakeholders (audiovisual translators, Language Service Providers, charities, survivors and filmmakers) to ensure that the voices of those who have suffered from trauma and Gender-Based Violence are ethically conveyed on-screen. It also shows how subtitlers cope with the translation of challenging sensitive material. The work described in this book is based on Prof Bosseaux's Ethical Translation project and is underpinned by a practical component: a multilingual documentary featuring women who have gone through traumatic events and whose first language is not English. Above all, the research emphasises the importance of filming and translating ethically with a focus on making sure survivors and audiovisual translators' voices are fully heard through respectful translation. This book showcases the theories and methods used and developed throughout the Ethical Translation project and the results of the research conducted, ultimately demonstrating the importance of carrying out practice-based research and encouraging collaboration between academics, practitioners and stakeholders to produce research that can be of use to, and be applied by, these groups.
