Rahi Masoom Reza (1927-1992) was a trailblazing Hindi-Urdu writer of the 20th century - best known for his novels Adha Gaon (1966), which vividly portrays a Shia Muslim village during Partition, Topi Shukla (1968), which captures the tragic rupture between Hindu and Muslim friends, and for scripting the iconic TV serial Mahabharat (1988) - an epic that captivated audiences across India and even Pakistan.
