This book provides a new perspective on the history of the United States from the eighteenth to early twenty-first century. It brings together 15 chapters that engage with the changing contour of the United States, its changing political culture, and its internal and international politics, and provides a critique of its democracy. It focuses on marginalized social groups - indigenous tribes, indentured labor, slaves, and immigrants - to understand their role and contributions in the making of the United States.
