This is the third volume of (Ret.) Col. Thomas Ty Smith's military trilogy, which includes The Old Army in Texas (TSHA, 2000, 2020), and The Old Army in the Big Bend of Texas: The Last Cavalry Frontier, 1911-1921 (TSHA, 2018). Like his earlier works, this begins with a narrative of Army activities in Texas, this time focusing on the first three decades of the twentieth century, and includes a lengthy appendix that provides detailed unit locations and commanders of Army tactical units in Texas from 1900 to 1941.
