This book recounts the afterlife of the great Golden Age dramatist Pedro Calderon de la Barca in Dutch and German-speaking Europe. The high quality of the German critical and philosophical tradition has led to a far greater appreciation of Calderon outside than inside his native Spain, and it is in the German territories that the playwright's influence has been most remarkable and widespread.
