Britain in the 1970s (1996) provides an objective appraisal of the workings and failings of the British economy in the 1970s. Seen as a turning point in the postwar economy, the 1970s have come under increasing attention from historians, economists and political scientists. By examining the decade from a number of directions, this book confronts debates about, for example, the decline of economic performance, the origins of monetarism and deregulation, the role of inflation, and the importance of external forces in shaping the British economy.
