This work focuses on various aspects of higher education and the collaboration between the universities and institutions of higher education. The essays: explore the wider business and policy background to co-operation between institutions of further and higher education using the University of Greenwich as an example; focus on the attitudes and concerns of staff and students at the FE/HE interface; look at the students' perspectives, concentrating on the needs of mature students in particular; explore the range of collaborative arrangements now in existence; discuss tensions between collaborations; identify why colleges should want to become involved in higher education; and they take a look at the critical issues facing American higher education as a new century approaches.
