解説
Historians, art and theatre historians, musicologists, literary historians, historians of politics and diplomacy are becoming increasingly interested in court festivals as a source of information in the early-modern period. Such festivals are usually recorded in a printed account or festival book. It is, however, extremely difficult to find such accounts, although they are present in major libraries in large numbers. This is because such accounts are often anonymous and, where they are not, the author is often a little-known court poet or historiographer. This text provides a bibliography of court festivals. It orders the material chronologically, grouping different accounts of the same festival together. It indexes rulers' names; places; types of event celebrated (christening, wedding, peace treaty); types of celebration (tournament, firework display, opera, etc); and illustrators, printers and places of publication.
