This is an annual listing of libraries in the UK and the Republic of Ireland with contact names, addresses, telephone and fax numbers and e-mail addresses and URLs where appropriate. Over 2600 major libraries are listed in the UK, Republic of Ireland, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. The listing is broken down into four main categories, all indexed by name and subject. The first are all public library authorities with entries for headquarters libraries, plus the main administrative, divisional, area and regional libraries. This edition provides comprehensive, up-to-date coverage of all the public library systems under the new 1998 unitary authorities. The second are children's, youth and schools library services, listing public library services for children and young people with contact names. The third are libraries in academic institutions. This listing comprises university libraries, including those of the newly accredited universities, and libraries in institutes of higher education and other degree-awarding institutions, incorporating all colleges of higher education funded by HEFCE. Entries for major department and site/campus libraries identified by the institutions concerned are included. The fourth are selected government, national and special libraries, together with departments of librarianship and information science. The directory is also available in the form of continually updated laser-quality adhesive mailing labels, addressed to named chief librarians, or alternatively addressed to the acquisitions librarian.
