The hearts and minds of Appalachian children have long been in the competent hands of female educators. These teachers are entrusted with the responsibility of preparing children to be well-integrated adults with the competence to play a productive role in society. Appalachian women have always faced obstacles, but many have overcome them because of the opportunities provided by education.
