This book discusses the transition process which took place in South Korea in the 1990s, and which has subsequently been, and continues to be, consolidated. It examines how, through a process of "experimental corporatism", a dual transformation was successfully brought about - in politics from authoritarian regime to liberal democracy, and in the economy from a state-centred to a more liberal economy. The book considers the role of successive governments, explores in particular institutions in the industrial relations field, and relates developments in South Korea to transition processes in other parts of the word and to theoretical debates about transition.
