解説
Recent events have cast a spotlight on the position of ethnic minorities within the law and the importance of effective and fair management of cultural diversity and legal pluralism. This volume traces the development of this subject and shows how certain continuities and discontinuities have been developing over time. The book takes a socio-legal approach to show the many links with other fields of knowledge than law. The book is divided into four parts. Part I looks at the Management of Cultural Diversity and Legal Pluralism, Part 2 at Migration and its Management, Part 3 The Management of Family Migration, and Part 4 discusses South Asians and the Management of Conflicting Legal Expectations. The conclusion of the volume picks up on these four major themes and indicates what tasks, in the light of other plurality-conscious models within a wider global and comparative law context are likely to be of major significance for Britain in years to come. This volume clearly illustrates how the management of cultural diversity through law, but certainly not through law alone, can be rehearsed and practised as a transferable skill through ethnic minority legal studies. The book will be a valuable guide for all those who want to be able to navigate the increasingly choppy waters of multicultural, multi-jurisdictional and multi-religious legal issues.
