解説

Records management is a management discipline whose identity, domain, size, and professional status are still evolving. Also known as records and information management, it emerged as a field during World War II as paperwork management, a set of strategies developed to address the enormous accumulation of records needed to run the U.S. war machine. Since then, computer applications have taken those principles and extended their reach within the organization. This monograph offers a series of descriptive, evaluative, critical, and predictive essays which examine: the origins and development of the records management field; its interdisciplinary aspects and relations with other elements of management and information work; its status within the professionalization process, and the field's possible futures.
