Falling levels of trust in government have become an increasingly significant global issue, affecting governments in both developing and developed regions. This publication is the result of the Workshop on Building Trust through Civic Engagement which took place in Vienna in 2007. It explores the role of civic engagement in building trust in government, highlights best practices and lessons learned from previous experiences in civic participation and address the institutional forms and capacity building issues related to forging ongoing partnerships to foster civic engagement in government processes.
