Volume 18 in the "Crime Prevention Studies" series, published in 2005, introduced the field of designing products and systems to prevent crime, moving beyond the earlier interest in vehicle security and into a far wider range of products - especially consumer electronics and mobile phones. Since then, developments have occurred on two fronts. There is a greater understanding of the process of assessment products' risk and security, and evaluating their impact; and there is increasing practical experience with designing products against crime in a way that is informed by research. However, we are become more familiar with some significant constraints on implementation and what to do about them. This new volume illustrates the progress made in the last four years and raises issues for the future.
