Libraries today must function in an environment of stagnant budgets, a growing proliferation of free and fee-based electronic resources, and rapid globalization. At the same time, an increasing numbers of constituencies both require and demand access to collections that meet their particular vernacular, educational or recreational needs.

Developing Culturally Diverse Collections for the 21st Century addresses the needs of public, academic and school librarians challenged with the need to develop and manage culturally diverse collections. Guided by the advice of 15 expert contributors, they will learn how to articulate problems and issues unique to building multicultural collections, and construct criteria to support varied decision making processes. Also included are ideas and suggestions for identifying useful resources, as well as how to reach creative alternatives or solutions in light of institutional goals.
