A History of Game Theory, Volume 1 traced the history of strategic games from its origins to 1945, concluding with the establishment of game theory as a distinct field of research. Following on from Volume 1, this book is an authoritative account of the period in which the initial hopes that game theory would revolutionize economics and the social sciences were disappointed. However, as the author shows, at the same time as scientists were expressing disillusionment, developments within game theory prepared the way for its future flourishing.
