For United Nations peace operations, 2006 was a record-breaking year, in terms of deployment, with just under 100,000 uniformed and civilian personnel serving in the field by the end of the year. Behind this unprecedented growth there were also a series of peace agreements, ceasefires or cessations of hostilities accomplished with UN political and diplomatic support. This publication reviews all the areas where UN peacekeepers were deployed in 2006.
