解説

Tracing the development of international human rights law since World War II, this book focuses on the role of international institutions in providing justice within a domestic context. Concentrating on the development of war crimes tribunals since Nuremberg and Tokyo, and including the cases of Yugoslavia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Cambodia and East Timor, it argues that an understanding of these ad hoc tribunals is essential in order to appreciate the development of the permanent International Criminal Court (ICC). The only book available that covers the breadth of cases, it places these institutions within the general development of international human rights law. Instructors will find this volume a valuable supplement to more general textbooks, with each of the country case study chapters providing an overview of the conflict and a discussion of the role of the international community in developing the tribunal.
