解説

オーストラリアを代表する会計学雑誌ではシドニー大学の"Abacus"が知られていますが、本誌はそれに劣らず、むしろ近年ではより重要な会計学・ファイナンス研究誌として評価されています。本誌は、1960年に発刊されたこの地域の大学の会計教育雑誌"The A.A.U.T.A. （Australasian Association of University Teachers of Accounting） News Bulletin. Vols. 1 - 12. Kensington, 1960 - 1972." と "Accounting Education. Journal of the Accounting Association of Australia and New Zealand. Vols. 13 - 18. Sidney, 1973 - 1978."をその母体としています。第15巻以前については発行部数が稀少なためか所蔵機関が皆無に近く、今回の収録は"Accounting Education. Vols. 16-18, 1976-78"以降に限られていますが、この部分も国内の所蔵は少なく研究者待望の復刻です。第15巻以前も原本の所在を確認次第、刊行の予定です。
　オーストラリア会計学の父と呼ばれるメルボルン大学教授ゴールドバーグ（Louis Goldberg, 1908-1997）が創刊に深く関わっています。『会計思想の旅』（A Journey into Accounting Thought, Routledge, 2001、工藤栄一郎訳『ゴールドバーグの会計思想』中央経済社）で知られるゴールドバーグの愛弟子リーチ（Stewart A. Leech）教授による追悼文が本誌の第38巻（1998年）に掲載されています。当初は年2回の刊行でしたが、1999年から年3回、2005年から季刊となりました。現在の編集責任者は4版を数えるテキスト『企業ファイナンス』（Corporate Finance, 4th ed., Prentice-Hall, 2000）の著者でモナーシュ大学のファー（Robert Farr）教授です。現代会計学、ファイナンス研究の必読文献としてお薦めいたします。
