The Moscow State Jewish Theatre, known by its acronym name GOSET and the affiliated Moscow State Jewish Theatre School (MGETU), happened to be an outstanding phenomenon of the time. GOSET was a pioneer enterprise serving as a "plant" producing innovative ideas of theatrical performance and art.
This collection of archival documents from the Russian State Archive of Lit-erature and Art (RGALI) contains unique material on Jewish avant-garde art, the history of the Soviet culture and theatre, and Stalin's repressions. This material in Yiddish, Hebrew, Russian, English, French and other European lan-guages not only furthers our knowledge about Yiddish theatre and Jewish culture in the Soviet Union, but also deepens and revise our understanding of the Krem-lin's policy toward Jewish society and culture form 1919 till early 50's.
