解説
The major aim of this book is to examine the effect of the process of European integration on both regional governments and nationalist/regionalist governments in Western Europe. The objectives are, therefore, to assess the sociological, political, legal and constitutional aspects of the relations among the three levels of government - European, national and sub-national - using the particular case of Catalonia.
The Catalan case is interesting because it involves the sub-national mobilization of an influential nationalist movement, its strategies having been emulated by other regions of Europe. Catalonia is seen as a 'leader' amongst the regions of Europe and as such, this study of its relationship between two other levels of government is key to understanding the changing nature of regional and supranational governance in today's Europe.
