解説
This is a study of the social conflict that surfaced in Malaya during and after the Japanese occupation. The author concentrates on the causes of wartime inter-racial conflicts between the Malays and the Chinese, the breakdown of authority during the post-war Japanese surrender interregnum and the confrontation between the Malayan Communist Party, the Malay population and the British during the period of the British military administration. The author reconstructs the story of Malaya in this fluid and fateful period of its history with insight and attempts to present a balanced perspective of the highly sensitive issues of race relations and politics in Malaysia.
