In recent years, various strands of institutional theory have emerged within the social science disciplines. This book places particular emphasis on the contributions from economics and sociology, reviews the state-of-the-art, and confronts different approaches. It also includes contributions on common theoretical challenges, overlapping themes and dilemmas of common interest. Some of the chapters aim at theoretical overview, trace the origin of institutionalist thought, or offer conceptual clarification and new contributions to general institutional theory.
