解説

This book refreshes the debate on unemployment and the Natural Rate of Unemployment (NRU), within a European context. It presents three general views - neo-classical, Keynesian and structuralist. The authors consider in particular the structuralist view and emphasise how the high rates of European unemployment are the consequences of basic characteristics of the European economy. In brief, unemployment over the last two decades, is seen as a result of the way in which technical progress interacts with capitalist institutions. The authors also examine the policy implications of this idea and emphasise the difference between NRU and full employment. They eventually suggest the rehabilitation of Beveridge's idea of full employment.
