解説

"Marginal Migrations" proposes a new configuration of inquiry in diaspora and globalisation studies. Unlike the majority of scholarship in this field, which focuses on migrations from the margins of global capitalism to the centres, this anthology investigates the importance of intra-marginal migrations by drawing on the historical example of the Caribbean. This book studies pan-Caribbean cultural identities, conflicts, alliances and hybrid practices arising out of the large and persistent migrations within the Caribbean region, migrations which have a profound effect on the economic and social activity within Caribbean countries. The book combines empirical and theoretical investigation to help understand the multiplicity of the margins and the complex power within them, and to theorise the ways in whcih these cultural phenomena require us to modify some of the dominant assumptions of diaspora studies.
