解説
The Muslim influence on Italy - be it Arab or Turkish - is little known and rarely written about, other than with reference to Sicily (where Muslim rule lasted 200 years, ending in the 11th century). The Muslims came to Italy first as Arab conquerors, hugely influencing the social and cultural life of Norman Sicily. As soldiers under Frederick II of Swabia, they settled in Lucera in the 13th century and from the 15th century onwards the threat of Turkish and Barbaresque pirate raids and attacks forever linked the two civilizations. This text is aimed at anyone interested in the interchange between these two cultures, the legacy of which is still apparent today.
