The premise of this book is that e-commerce innovations can be e-government innovations as well. However, this trend is just appearing and the blueprint for success must be assembled. The authors contend that, today, the aims of government are inhibited by the means of government, but that for the first time in the history of massive modern societies, e-solutions can bring the aims and means of government into congruence. Government is information-intensive and communications-intensive. It is expected to serve the citizen with something approaching efficiency, responsiveness and recognition of individual needs. For private commerce, the Internet is making possible new levels of customer service in all of these respects. The same can be true for government. How to get there?
