Cyprus is key to understanding of the difficulties surrounding EU enlargement. It embodies the problems that emerge from the meeting of postmodern organisations and modern conflicts that is characteristic of contemporary international politics. This work explores the issue of the Cyprus conflict from a number of angles, first investigating the international setting of the Cyprus conflict, then the modernist features of the conflict and finally whether the European Union can contribute to a settlement of the conflict through postmodernisation. The contributors to this book not only pursue fresh theoretical perspectives in an area that has so far been largely under-theorised, but also critically examine current European policies in search of alternatives.
