The Oxford English Dictionary is the internationally recognized authority on the English Language, defining more than 500,000 words and tracing their usage through 2.5 million quotations from a wide range of literary and other sources. This new updated edition retains the clear interface and easy-to-use functionality of the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) version 2.0, but includes additional search features to allow users to construct more powerful and flexible searches across the OED text. The text on the OED CD-ROM has been brought right up to date with the inclusion of the three Additions volumes for the first time, as well as some new words, which were previously only published on OED Online. Other new content will include the Bibliography and other useful extra matter from the print edition. A new installation option, much requested by users, will be included so that users can choose to install the OED to their hard drive and run it without the CD-ROM for more convenient access. Completely up-to-date compatibility: this new edition is fully compatible with Windows 2000 and Windows Me. Existing functionality retained from version 2.0 includes: a browser-based user interface; options to customize entries to show or hide pronunciations, spellings, etymology, and quotation text; full text search, with search filters and a powerful proximity search; and an option to rank entries and search results alphabetically or by date.
