Irregularities in the EC finances have been regarded with growing concern. Steps taken against these irregularities have first and foremost been to ensure that the rules are abided by, and where this is not the case, sanctions applied. On the various occasions when these problems have been taken up, they have usually been dealt with sporadically and unsystematically.
