This work examines five models of endogenous growth cycles in order to evaluate in theory and practice the role of credit finance in the persistance of cycles. The theoretical investigation distinguishes between those closer to the classical tradition (the exclusion of credit from the conceptual structure of development theories) from others with a Keynesian foundation (the proclamation of the independence of investment from savings). The author takes the example of the Spanish economy as a reference to assess the theoretical claims of the models presented.
