In this revised and updated second edition of "Rangeland Ecology and Management" the authors Harold F. Heady and R. Dennis Child offer a new description of the world's rangelands. Several chapters on the effects of defoliation by animals have been updated. Concepts such as plant succession, state-and-transition models, stability, and monitoring of range condition have gone through many changes in the past ten years. The authors explain these changes and place emphasis on environmental concerns, repair of damaged land, riparian zone management, multiple uses, livestock grazing, and animal management. Revised vegetational management will highlight wildlife habitat, seeding native species, use of fire as a management tool, and rehabilitation after wild fires.
