By examining the concept of "place" within the context of housing and planning policy, the contributors address issues of key concern to policy makers, housing researchers and social theorists. Using international case studies, they illustrate a wide range of policies, scale of programs and cultural contexts. They firstly examine the impact that characteristics of place have on people's life chances, followed by a thorough evaluation of policies aimed at changing the nature of places through movement of people.
