This publication presents the thinking of international experts on the issue of democracy and peace in Central Africa. The Sub-regional Conference brought together for the first time in a single forum in Central Africa, members of government, representatives of opposition parties, senior officers of the armed forces and security forces and representatives of civil society. Held at a crucial time in the history of the subregion with Central Africa experiencing violent and repeated internal conflicts, the delegates discussed such issues as: disarmament, demobilization, political freedoms, human rights, freedom of the press and information and reintegration of former combatants into civilian life.
