解説

This text deals with the task of shedding light in the creation of Palestinian nationalism(s) and national identity. The study seeks to explain how Palestinian nationalism is constantly being recreated (as well as the very meaning of Palestinian national identity) as it oscillates between the two notions of "struggle" and "suffering". The book draws on official PLO documents and intifada leaflets as well as an extensive oral history. Since the Palestine case is still under-theorized, this book seeks to fill a gap in the study of Palestinian nationalism. It also adds to our understanding of the formation of nationalism in general terms, in the way that it illustrates how nationalism is produced in the incessant interplay between external processes and structures an internal creative dynamics.
