解説

This collection of essays addresses issues of gender in public policy by examining how the women's movement made public policy respond to certain "private" concerns such as family relations and sexuality and question its role in interfering with individual choice, such as issues of morality. The international collection of contributors not only address the impact of feminism on the shifts between public and private policy, but also other key factors such as the general retreat from public sector ownership and welfare provision in many Western societies. The theoretical arguments in the first part of the book are illustrated by case studies from across Europe and North America in the second part. These are structured into three sections: gender, politics and the public sector; public policy, welfare states and the status of women and public policy; and public health and the environment.
