This text discusses the politics of the Public Distribution System in India - a large-scale food distribution programme through which subsidized food grains (mainly rice and wheat) are distributed to the Indian population. Based on intensive field-work in Kerala and Karnataka, this book analyzes how the distribution system actually works in reality, who profits, who is excluded, and why this is the case.
